Senior QA Automation Engineer

Nairobi, Kenya | Hybrid – 2–3 days per week in the office

As a Senior QA Automation Engineer, you'll take hands-on ownership of quality across products that underpin critical financial crime prevention and transaction observability. This is a hands-on automation role for someone with strong engineering fundamentals. You'll build and evolve automation frameworks, test complex APIs and integrations, investigate defects and work closely with developers to build quality into the development process.

You'll join an experienced international engineering team, working day-to-day with colleagues across different countries. You'll take part in stand-ups, technical discussions and problem-solving across locations, so you'll need to communicate your thinking and ideas clearly, work independently and be comfortable contributing and challenging when needed.

What you'll do

  • Design, build and maintain automated tests across web, API and integration layers.
  • Own and evolve automation frameworks, improving coverage, reliability and maintainability.
  • Write clean, maintainable automation code, primarily in Java.
  • Build automated API and integration tests for complex backend and transactional systems.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Combine automation with exploratory and manual testing where appropriate.
  • Investigate complex defects, analyse data and work with developers on root cause.
  • Work closely with developers and Product Managers throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Identify opportunities to improve QA tooling, processes and engineering practices.
  • Take ownership of your work and contribute confidently within an international Agile engineering team.

What you'll bring

  • Clear, confident communication and experience working day-to-day with international teams, including remote stand-ups, technical discussions and cross-functional collaboration.
  • 5+ years' commercial QA/Test Engineering experience with significant hands-on automation.
  • Strong hands-on Java experience specifically for test automation.
  • Strong Playwright and/or Selenium experience.
  • Experience building or significantly evolving automation frameworks, not simply adding tests to existing suites.
  • Automated API testing experience using
  • RestAssured or similar code-based tools.
  • JUnit, TestNG or similar.
  • CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or similar.
  • Docker/containerised environments.SQL and database validation.
  • Experience testing complex web, backend, distributed or transaction-based systems.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

Experience with Kafka, MQ or Elastic; performance testing with JMeter or k6; Kubernetes/Helm; Linux; and financial services, banking, payments, fraud or AML.
