Senior Tax Accountant (m/f/d)
About this role
About the role
The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing tax compliance, tax planning, and tax reporting in Poland and hands-on support across other European jurisdictions including the UK, Spain, and France. This role requires significant experience preparing corporate and VAT returns, coupled with an in-depth understanding of Polish tax regulations and the ability to quickly build working knowledge of tax requirements in other jurisdictions as the role's scope grows.
This is a fast-paced, dynamic role on a small, close-knit global tax team. Priorities shift quickly in response to tax authority deadlines, audits, and evolving compliance requirements across markets, so comfort with ambiguity and frequent context-switching is essential. In turn, this role offers significant opportunity to learn multiple European tax regimes, work directly with Big 4 and regional advisors, and grow into broader multi-jurisdiction ownership as the team and company scale.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance
- Prepare and file CIT return and calculation in accordance with Polish tax laws and regulations.
- Manage VAT compliance, including the preparation and submission of VAT returns for Poland and, as needed, other jurisdictions in scope (e.g., France, UK, Spain).
- Prepare and submit JPK files (JPK_V7M and JPK_KR / SAF-T) in required Polish Ministry of Finance formats, including validating file schemas and troubleshooting generation issues with internal systems partners.
- Support UK VAT return preparation and submission to HMRC as part of the team's broader jurisdictional coverage.
- Calculate and file withholding tax (WHT) obligations, including corrections related to cross-border contractor and vendor payments.
- Liaise with tax authorities and respond to inquiries and audits.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax-related documents.
Tax Planning and Advisory
- Support the Head of Tax in identifying tax-saving opportunities and flagging areas of potential risk or inefficiency across Polish and in-scope European jurisdictions.
- Monitor changes in Polish tax legislation and relevant European regulations; summarize key developments and assess their potential impact on the company's filing obligations and positions.
- Assist in the preparation of materials and analysis to support external advisor engagements on tax planning, structuring, and advisory matters.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare tax provisions and disclosures for financial statements.
- Collaborate with the wider finance team to ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax-related items.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts from a tax perspective.
Cross-Functional & Advisor Coordination
- Coordinate directly with external advisors across multiple countries on filings, audits, and advisor transitions.
- Partner with internal Systems/IT and Accounting teams (e.g., Business Central / Dynamics) to resolve tax-reporting system issues, generate required data extracts, and support platform/billing transformation projects with tax input.
- Monitor and manage the shared tax correspondence inbox, ensuring timely triage and response.
Internal Controls and Compliance
- Maintain and support internal controls related to tax compliance and reporting.
- Maintain accurate and organized tax records and documentation.
- Conduct regular reviews and audits of tax processes to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Provide training and support to finance and accounting staff on tax-related matters.
What we're looking for
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Qualified Polish / international accountant certification (e.g., CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- 5+ years of relevant tax experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department, with a focus on preparing corporate and VAT returns in Poland.
- Exposure to or willingness to learn tax compliance requirements in other European jurisdictions as well as US Tax compliance obligations is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of Polish tax laws and regulations.
- Experience in dealing with Polish tax authorities and handling tax audits.
- Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of ERP Dynamics NAV will be a strong asset.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, dynamic, and sometimes ambiguous environment, with the flexibility to shift priorities as deadlines and audits demand.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks while collaborating effectively within a team.
- Proficiency in English at a B2 level or higher, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
