Job Summary

We’re hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to design and deliver SaaS products powered by data, machine learning, and AI. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on backend systems, distributed architecture, cloud infrastructure, and AI-enabled product capabilities. You’ll partner with Product, Design, Data, ML, and Engineering teams to build scalable customer-facing features while improving reliability, performance, and engineering standards across the platform.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Own architecture and technical direction for backend systems within a multi-tenant SaaS platform
• Design and build backend services, APIs, integrations, and data flows that support customer-facing product experiences
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, and ML teams to integrate AI and machine learning capabilities into real customer workflows
• Develop APIs, data contracts, telemetry, and feedback loops that support reliable AI-powered features
• Improve system scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and operational readiness across production services
• Partner with Security and Compliance teams to support authentication, authorization, data privacy, and multi-tenancy requirements
• Lead technical design reviews and architecture discussions across product, data, and ML initiatives
• Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering standards around API design, testing, observability, and software quality

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience building production applications
• Experience designing and building backend services, APIs, and integrations using Node.js/TypeScript, Java, Go, Rust, or similar technologies
• Experience owning production systems in a SaaS, cloud, or distributed systems environment
• Experience integrating data, machine learning, or AI capabilities into production software systems
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python and data-related tooling such as pandas, PyTorch, or similar frameworks
• Experience with relational databases, caching systems, data modeling, or data warehousing concepts
• Experience exposing ML models, LLMs, or AI services through production APIs or backend workflows
• Experience designing guardrails for AI features, including fallbacks, permissions, error handling, or explainability
• Experience with observability, monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response processes
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical design reviews across teams
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT in development workflows

Compensation Range

The base salary range for this job is CAD $219,000 – $245,000 / year.

An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. At Kaseya, certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
