The mission of the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission (CJC) is to improve the legitimacy, efficiency, and effectiveness of Oregon’s state and local criminal justice systems by providing a centralized and impartial forum for statewide policy development and planning.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Research Analyst with CJC you’ll identify, plan, lead and report on complex research projects related to ongoing and emerging issues in Oregon’s criminal and juvenile justice system. The types of projects designed and managed by this position include:

  • Random control trials and quasi-experimental analyses examining the effectiveness of justice system interventions

  • Analyses of racial, ethnic and other forms of disparities among individuals involved in the criminal and juvenile legal systems

  • Resource allocation and cost-benefit analyses of justice system interventions

  • Analyses of trends in criminal offending, involved youth, arrests, incarceration, and recidivism.

This Is What You Need to Qualify

  • A Bachelor's Degree in any disciplines that included six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures, and three years experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports. Two of the three years must have included coordinating complex research projects; OR

  • Five years of research experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports. Two of the five years must have included coordinating complex research projects.

The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:

  • Advanced educational background in economics, criminal justice, sociology, or related fields is desired.

  • Extensive training in and knowledge of statistics, research methods, experimental and quasi-experimental design.

  • Advanced technical experience in use of statistical software such as SAS, Stata, R, Tableau, and the use of other productivity software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated success and advanced knowledge of project management and project management principles for complex research projects.

  • Skill in analyzing data using basic statistical techniques, gathering data from primary and secondary sources, and analyzing and interpreting data

  • Experience writing effective analytic narratives to describe findings to a variety of audiences such as executive leadership, legislators, and other state agencies.

  • This announcement is for one, full-time, Limited Duration – Fixed Term, Unrepresented, Senior Research Analyst (Research Analyst 4) position and may be used to fill future vacancies. This opportunity is limited duration and is expected to last until June 30, 2027 but may be extended or made permanent based on funding and agency need.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.Review the Classification and Compensation page for more details on the classification, or you may visit our website for information on the job offer process following pay equity.
