About this role

About Fortuna Health

We believe accessing healthcare should be as simple as doing your taxes on TurboTax. But for the millions on Medicaid, it’s not.

Fortuna Health is redefining the consumer experience for Medicaid. We’re helping millions navigate Medicaid end-to-end from eligibility and enrollment to renewing coverage. We're backed by a16z, BoxGroup, YC, and top healthcare angels.

We believe this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to dramatically improve the human condition for 90M people, and we need the help of high-throughput, growth-minded builders to make it happen.

About the role

What you'll do

As an early hire on our Enrollment team, you'll help build the product that helps hospital patients enroll in Medicaid after a visit. When an uninsured or underinsured patient leaves one of our partner hospitals, our product enables them to enroll in coverage. You'll own the state-by-state operations that make that work.

You will own building out our state-expansion playbook. Part of that is research: Medicaid works differently in every state, and you'll do deep, primary-source work to understand each one's eligibility rules, application pathways, and documentation requirements. But the bigger part is turning that understanding into how our team actually runs. You'll form hypotheses about how a state's enrollment process works, design and run tests to validate them, document what we learn as repeatable best practices, and build the processes and playbooks the rest of the team executes against. As we take on more states and more volume, you'll be the one making sure our operations scale with us.

You'll also work closely with engineering to operationalize all of this. A lot of what you learn about a state needs to become product: the workflows, logic, and checks that let us enroll patients correctly and at scale.

This is a strong fit for someone with an operational instinct and a real interest in Medicaid policy. There's a lot of greenfield to build here, and the role will grow and change as the company does. What you own six months in will look different from what you own on day one.

What we're looking for

Product Mindset

Our philosophy is that everyone should be product-oriented. We’re fundamentally building a consumer product for the masses. You will be in a unique position to understand both our enterprise clients and our end users. The challenge for you is to help balance the needs of both while remaining committed to our core user experience.

Ownership

There's plenty of greenfield, exploratory work to be done. We need someone to be able to take an ambiguous problem and run with it. As workflows mature, you'll be expected to own them end-to-end without heavy oversight.

High Velocity

We're looking for a rockstar operator: someone energetic, detail-oriented, and capable of managing context for multiple clients comfortably. Speed and quality aren't a tradeoff here—we expect both.

Respectful Disagreement

We believe it's crucial to be able to openly disagree with anyone on the team. We are looking for someone who doesn't shy away from conflict, but is respectful and empathetic in their approach and always open to different ideas.

Humility

It's important to be able to admit when you're wrong. We are looking for a low-ego teammate who is able to take failures in stride and grow from them.

Requirements

  • 1-2+ years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, or working at a startup

  • Strong attention to detail -- you take pride in doing the little things right, especially when nobody’s looking

  • Exceptional analytical skills -- you're comfortable in data, and know how to gather input to drive business decisions

  • High ownership -- you are comfortable building operational processes in ambiguous situations

  • Ability to work 5 days per week in-person in NYC

What we offer

  • Competitive salary and equity ownership in the company

  • Platinum health insurance plans
