Job Description

ProSidian seeks a Senior Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer – Construction - Engineering (CO102) as an Engagement Team Member generally located across the Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina, supporting Environmental Management Sector requirements to support an engagement for a liquid waste contractor (Savannah River Remediation [SRMC]) at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC, which is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy.

JOB OVERVIEW

Provide services and support as an Engineering Functional Area Senior Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer – Construction (CO102) under Labor Category: Construction Discipline Engineer at Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina.  Senior Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer – Construction - Engineering (CO102) works collaboratively as part of the ProSidian Engagement Team as Exempt personnel.  Dedicated Planned Labor Hours (DPLH) of 2080 Straight Time (ST) Estimated Annual Quantity (Hrs. Per Yr.) | 300 Overtime Time (OT) Estimated Annual Quantity (Hrs. Per Yr.). 

This is a Labor Hour Subcontract or Contract W-2 (IRS-1099) position, and ProSidian reserves the right to convert to a full-time ProSidian-employed W-2 Position.  The role(s) are located at Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina, with an identified Work Site Address (121 Richland Ave E, Aiken, SC 29801, USA), providing Engineering functions working to provide BOA Support Services for multiple department requirement Service Areas (SA) for Savannah River Remediation LLC (The SRMC/LW Contractor) at the U.S. Department of Energy | Savannah River Site (DOE-SRS) in Aiken, SC to support the evolving needs of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Senior Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer – Construction - Engineering (CO102)

  • Role Scope: Plan and provide technical oversight of field construction procurement, fabrication, installation, modification, and maintenance of systems and components within the assigned discipline.
  • Design Coordination: Coordinate with design agencies for timely issuance of new designs and design changes. Resolve construction design problems with Design Engineers.
  • Constructability Reviews: Review design output and vendor documents. Conduct field walkdowns with design engineers. Verify constructability, procedure and code compliance, field conditions against design output, and material availability. Submit constructability comments, track comments to resolution, and support project design review meetings.
  • Material Takeoff and Procurement: Develop and expedite bills of materials (BOM). Track material delivery progress and status. Coordinate delivery to the field. Verify received materials against ordered materials.
  • Work execution plan development: Conduct walkdowns with craft supervision and support groups. Develop installation sequences and work instructions. Generate inspection and test records or coordinate with Quality Control. Identify layout and survey needs and generate requests. Prepare job-specific hazard analyses and support or lead team hazard-analysis review meetings.
  • Permits and authorizations: Generate or support job-specific permits and orders as required: lockout/tagout orders, power services utilization permits, hot work, asbestos disturbance, confined space, radiological work, excavation, and hazardous waste.
  • Work plan review and approval: Attend or chair execution-plan review meetings. Develop hazard-analysis and work-plan approval routing lists. Coordinate and expedite work-package approval routing. Disposition review comments. Assemble approved work execution plans. Provide plan status and updates in the SRS work control passport system.
  • Field execution support: Lead craft pre-job briefings. Perform task-ready walkdowns with craft supervision. Verify installed commodity quantities. Coordinate daily field support. Expedite or order materials as required. Coordinate material testing and track shop fabrication supporting field execution. Perform field inspections and identify and coordinate resolution of installation issues.
  • Quality compliance: Inspect and verify materials, equipment, and workmanship against drawings, specifications, and applicable codes. Coordinate with Quality Control to confirm installation requirements are met.
  • Turnover and startup: Participate in turnover activities and support startup and functional checkout of equipment and systems.
  • Work plan closure: Generate design completion notices. Ensure work execution plan status accuracy. Close required permits and work execution plan documentation.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications For Senior Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer – Construction - Engineering (CO102) (CO102) Candidates:

  • Required: Thorough understanding of construction engineering principles and ability to apply them to field conditions.
  • Required: Working knowledge of discipline-specific codes and standards.
  • Required: Previous experience generating computer-based construction work execution plans or work packages, including job-specific hazard analysis. Asset Suite and Assisted Hazard Analysis or equivalent are identified in the description. Asset Suite experience is preferred.
  • Required: Previous experience generating job hazard analyses.
  • Required: Previous experience performing material takeoffs and procurement.
  • Required: Capability to obtain qualification to work in radiological work areas.       

CONSTRUCTION DISCIPLINE ENGINEER PIPING/MECHANICAL

The position requires the following specific requirements:

  • Experienced with pipe/tubing fabrication and installation
  • Experienced with pipe support fabrication and installation
  • Experienced with pipe testing, hydrostatic and pneumatic
  • Familiar with National Codes ASME Piping codes B31.1 and B31.3
  • Capable of interpreting design drawings, P&ID’s and Orthographics
  • Knowledge of SRS-specific piping guides and standards is a plus
  • Familiar with National Codes and Standards (ASME relative to Tank fabrication/installation, rotating and stationary Equipment, H&V, Insulation, etc.) and capable of interpreting and analyzing requirements to ensure compliance
  • Experienced in H&V fabrication/installation / testing
  • Experienced in setting of equipment, pumps and alignments
  • Knowledge of SRS-specific mechanical guides and standards is a plus
  • Experience in developing ordinary and critical lift plans is a plus
  • Experienced in radiological work planning and hazard analysis is desirable
  • Capable of climbing and spending extended periods of time in the field
  • Capable of obtaining qualification to work in radiological work areas

Education / Experience Requirements / Qualifications

  • Alternative 1: Bachelor’s degree in the specified engineering discipline AND at least 5 years of practical construction field engineering experience in that discipline.
  • Alternative 2: Associate’s degree in the specified engineering discipline AND 5–10 years of practical construction engineering experience in that discipline.
  • Alternative 3: High school diploma AND 10+ years of practical construction engineering experience in the specified discipline.
  • Discipline applicability: Meet one of the three alternative education/experience pathways. Specified discipline is Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Civil, or Instruments and Controls, as determined by the requestor. This supplied specialization is Piping/Mechanical.
  • Required: Thorough understanding of construction engineering principles and ability to apply them to field conditions.
  • Required: Working knowledge of discipline-specific codes and standards.

Skills Required

  • Field conditions: Must be capable of climbing and spending extended periods in the field.
