Purpose

As a Senior Materials & Process engineer, you will help accelerate the adoption and qualification of new manufacturing processes through first principles materials engineering and robust qualification testing. 

The Role

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in L-PBF alloy metallurgical evaluation and microstructure characterization, supporting high-priority improvements to printed material capability and consistency 
  • Define and execute material qualification test plans and generate corresponding material allowables for design 
  • Perform process development and qualification for onboarding of new materials and manufacturing processes 
  • Write and maintain engineering specifications for materials, processes, and testing  
  • Support material related quality monitoring tools and lead / execute root cause investigations 
  • Collaborate, as M&P focal, in integrated product teams (IPTs) on development and delivery of new products 
  • Engage in component design process to provide solutions to customer material requirements including delivering component specific testing 

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls 
  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science or engineering, or related field 
  • 5+ years of experience executing material qualifications and writing technical specifications 
  • 5+ years of experience working with hardware in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Experience with, and ability to interpret, aerospace and defense requirements - including industry standards such as AMS, ASTM, and MIL specifications 
  • Expertise in one of the following; additive manufacturing, metallurgy, heat treatment or forgings/castings.  
  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or doctorate in materials science or engineering, or related field.  
  • Comprehensive knowledge of materials mechanical behavior, such as fatigue and fracture – including experience with MMPDS fundamentals  
  • Experience with NADCAP or other auditing methodology  
  • Familiarity with laboratory material tests such as metallographic evaluation, powder characterization, thermoanalytical testing, tensile testing, etc. 
  • Proficient with 3D Modeling in Teamcenter / NX 

Work Environment

  • Mix of office, laboratory, and industrial environment. May work with powders, chemicals, and machining equipment. 
Pay Range
$141,380$194,390 USD
