About the job: 

Kent is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to be based in Corpus Christ, Texas. 

You will provide project discipline engineering support on project teams towards the successful completion of projects as assigned so that they are successfully completed and meet the objectives.

Skills and Responsibilities:    

Responsibilities:

  • Experience in the design of electrical distribution systems in a project team environment with a focus on refinery power distribution, 
  • Develop load lists and equipment sizing.
  • Prepare Electrical specifications and datasheets
  • Develop single line diagrams with relaying, protection and metering systems from low to high voltage.
  • Develop/Coordinate protective relay settings and coordination studies including Arc Flash.
  • Design and layout of electrical substations and prefabricated electrical buildings per NEC requirements.
  • Prepare electrical packages for quotation and purchasing following company procedures.
  • Review vendor drawings for compliance with Technical Specifications and prepare technical bid evaluations.
  • Prepare packages for code review and permitting by local/applicable authority having jurisdiction. 
  • Establish the scope of work for projects/ proposals, developing engineering cost estimates and deliverable lists.
  • Provide Electrical BOMs and major equipment costs for capital cost estimates at various project stages
  • Mentor and support the team members on projects.
  • Monitor and update electrical manhours and schedule progress on assigned projects.
  • Provide input to manhour estimates and provide scopes of work.
  • Attend project team meetings, Client meetings and vendor review meetings.
  • Establish a good working relationship with the Clients.
  • Review designs for constructability in accordance with project requirements.
  • Utilize SKM or ETAP for power system studies (as required). 

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

 

 
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:   

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the design of Electrical distribution systems in refining and chemical plants.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of electrical design calculations.
  • Knowledge of Interfacing with DCS, SCADA, PLC etc.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Area Classification design and studies.
  • Knowledge of Battery/UPS systems.
  • Knowledge of Substation Grounding study and Grounding Grid Layout.
  • Familiar with outdoor/indoor Substation Equipment layout.
  • Proven experience in successfully leading small to medium-size projects.
  • Experience in managing vendor electrical packages (substations, MCC buildings, Transformers, ASD etc.).
  • Works with minimal supervision, manages own time effectively and maintains control over all current projects/responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international codes (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA, etc.) and Best Engineering Practices that apply to Electrical.
  • Quality management system and procedures.
  • Electrical workflow and interdisciplinary co-ordination.
  • Proficiency in Power system studies and analysis (ETAP/SKM).
  • Good writing skills to produce reports, scope documents and presentation materials.
  • Exhibits an understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, and construction workflow.

  • Effective communications skills in English (written and verbal).
