Senior Ecologist - Hamilton

Are you an experienced ecologist looking to take the next step into a diverse and rewarding consulting role within a growing national team?

WSP is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our Hamilton office as part of our National Ecology team. We are looking for someone with a strong consulting background and expertise in one or more ecological disciplines who is ready to lead high-quality ecological assessments, manage projects, support clients, and contribute to a diverse portfolio of work across WSP's ecology services. You will also support the growth and development of junior team members.

You will work closely with experienced ecologists across New Zealand, benefiting from the technical leadership, collaboration and support of WSP's national ecology team. This role offers the opportunity to broaden your experience while working alongside specialists across a wide range of ecological disciplines and environments.

This role offers the opportunity to build your profile while working across a wide range of local, national and international projects, including mining, energy, transport and water projects. You will help solve complex ecological challenges, support multidisciplinary project teams, and contribute to the continued growth of our ecology services while helping shape the future of our Waikato team.

About the role:

  • Lead and support ecological projects across the full project lifecycle, from field surveys and ecological assessments through to consenting, mitigation, monitoring and reporting

  • Provide practical, evidence-based ecological advice for mining, energy, transport, water and other infrastructure projects

  • Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to the growth of a high-performing ecology team

  • Collaborate with clients, iwi, stakeholders, regulators, industry partners and multidisciplinary project teams

  • Contribute to business development, client engagement and the growth of WSP’s ecology capability across key sectors

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and ideally 5+ years’ professional experience

  • Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP), or working towards it

  • Strong technical, analytical, and project management skills

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and build relationships at all levels

  • Commitment to WSP’s guiding principles: valuing people, fostering collaboration, and challenging the status quo
