About this role

Citi is looking for a Senior Distressed Assets Valuation Analyst to deliver independent valuation and financial analysis across a portfolio of non-performing loans and distressed credit exposures, directly informing recovery and restructuring strategies at one of the world's leading global banks. In this role, you will work closely with credit transactors, risk managers, legal, and finance teams to assess collateral values, evaluate borrower viability, and recommend recovery outcomes that align with Citi's risk management framework. Your analysis will shape decisions on restructuring, refinancing, enforcement, and asset exit strategies across a complex and high-impact portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the value of distressed assets, including corporate entities, commercial real estate, and loan collateral, to determine recovery prospects for non-performing exposures.
  • Build and maintain financial models using discounted cash flow (DCF), liquidation, and market-based valuation methodologies to support credit decision-making.
  • Conduct scenario analysis and stress testing to evaluate recovery outcomes under a range of restructuring and enforcement strategies.
  • Evaluate borrower business plans, cash flow forecasts, and turnaround proposals to determine financial viability and repayment capacity.
  • Analyse financial statements, management accounts, and sector trends to identify key valuation drivers and quantify risk exposure.
  • Prepare valuation reports and recovery recommendations for credit committees, senior management, and regulatory audiences.
  • Monitor distressed portfolio accounts to identify shifts in collateral values or borrower circumstances that may affect recovery outcomes.
  • Collaborate with credit risk, legal, and finance teams to coordinate problem-credit management and support enforcement, asset disposal, and insolvency proceedings where required.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Holds a Chartered Accountant (CA), MBA in Finance, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or equivalent advanced professional qualification.
  • Brings 3–5 years of experience in credit analysis, corporate restructuring, distressed debt, special assets, or corporate and investment banking.
  • Applies corporate valuation methodologies with confidence, including DCF analysis and relative valuation (multiples) techniques, across a range of industrial sectors.
  • Builds advanced financial models using Microsoft Excel and specialist financial analysis tools to support complex credit assessments.
  • Communicates clearly and persuasively in both written and verbal formats, with the ability to influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Works with a high degree of autonomy and accountability while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Practical experience working with non-performing loans, distressed debt portfolios, or restructuring transactions strengthens your application.
  • Exposure to insolvency proceedings or enforcement strategies in a banking or advisory context is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with provisioning, impairment assessment, or regulatory credit review processes would be a valuable addition to the team.

What We Offer

At Citi, you will work on high-stakes credit situations that have a direct impact on the bank's recovery outcomes and financial performance. This is a role that offers genuine ownership, senior exposure, and the opportunity to develop deep expertise in distressed credit and valuation within a globally connected institution.

  • Hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, giving you flexibility alongside meaningful in-person collaboration.
  • Exposure to complex, high-value credit situations that build specialist expertise in distressed debt and corporate valuation.
  • Direct engagement with senior stakeholders across credit risk, legal, finance, and governance functions, accelerating your professional impact.
  • Access to learning and development opportunities that support career progression within Citi's global risk and credit platform.
  • A performance-driven environment where your analytical work contributes directly to strategic outcomes and business results.
  • Wellbeing and financial benefits designed to support you at every stage of your career.
