Senior AI Engineer

At DataXstream we're looking for a Senior AI Engineer to help design, build, and scale the intelligent systems behind our OMS+ IA platform. In this role, you'll work at the intersection of large language models, agentic workflows, and enterprise data to create AI solutions that make order management smarter and more autonomous. You'll partner with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to turn business needs into production-grade AI capabilities, and you'll help shape how DataXstream applies modern AI tooling across the platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who wants to build AI systems that operate reliably inside real enterprise workflows, not just proofs of concept. 

This position is open to candidates located in Poland.

Key Responsibilities 

• AI & Machine Learning Development: Design, develop, and optimize machine learning models, LLM-based features, and agentic workflows that enhance the core capabilities of our SaaS platform. 

• Applied LLM Engineering: Build and refine solutions using large language models, including prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool-use/function calling, and multi-agent orchestration.
  
• Data Strategy: Partner with data engineering teams to build robust data pipelines and infrastructure that support training, fine-tuning, and evaluation of AI models.

• Research & Innovation: Track developments in AI and machine learning, including advances in generative AI and agentic systems, and translate promising techniques into practical improvements for our platform. 

• AI Infrastructure: Contribute to the design of AI infrastructure, including model deployment, orchestration, monitoring, and continuous learning pipelines. 

• Model Evaluation & Tuning: Evaluate model and system performance using clear metrics, and continuously fine-tune for accuracy, latency, cost, and reliability. 

• Responsible AI Practices: Help implement guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and monitoring to ensure AI features behave safely, predictably, and transparently in production. 

• Collaboration & Leadership: Work with senior engineers and product teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions, and mentor junior engineers and data scientists. 

• Scalability & Efficiency: Design systems that handle large datasets and integrate cleanly into DataXstream's existing architecture. 

• Deployment & Monitoring: Oversee production deployment of AI models and agents, and continuously monitor performance to ensure they operate reliably under real-world conditions. 

• Problem Solving: Tackle complex AI challenges spanning natural language processing, recommendation systems, predictive analytics, and agentic automation. 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying machine learning or AI systems in production. 

• Strong programming skills in TypeScript/JavaScript, with the ability to build and integrate AI/ML functionality within a TypeScript-based product stack. 
  

• Working knowledge of Python for ML workflows (model training, fine-tuning, and experimentation), even where the core product runs on TypeScript. 

• Hands-on experience working with large language models, including prompt engineering, RAG, or fine-tuning. 

• Solid understanding of core machine learning concepts, model evaluation, and MLOps practices. 

• Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines for model training and inference. 

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead AI projects from concept through deployment. 

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
  

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with Node.js AI/ML libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow.js, ONNX Runtime, LangChain.js). 

• Experience with Python ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. 

• Experience building agentic AI systems or multi-agent workflows. 

• Familiarity with tool-calling standards or protocols for connecting LLMs to external systems (e.g., MCP-style integrations). 

• Experience with vector databases and semantic search for retrieval-augmented applications. 

• Background working with SAP or enterprise order management systems. 

• Experience with cloud AI infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and model-serving platforms. 

• Familiarity with responsible AI practices, including bias evaluation, guardrails, and observability tooling. 
• Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading a small technical team.
