Position Summary:

As a Scientist 2 within Illumina’s Advanced Science team, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team to help create new sequencing methods. You will play an important role in the research and development of sequencing reagents and consumables with the world-class performance, stability and robustness characteristics that our customers require.

Position Responsibilities:

• Be the main contributor of project and lead investigation to solve cross-functional problems in collaboration with key stakeholders
• Plan and optimize research ideas leading to new methods and chemistries for sequencing in a fast-paced environment
• Explore new technologies, troubleshoot and identify creative solutions to overcome current limitations
• Design, implement, analyze and present experiments to demonstrate feasibility of new technology with limited instruction
• Be a collaborative team member and individual contributor.
• Conduct clear and concise communication with colleagues (cross-functional) and supervisors through oral updates, written reports and technical meetings
• Upkeep of lab equipment, laboratory supplies and good housekeeping

Position Requirements:

• Proven track record in innovation, scientific creativity and scientific output in new chemistry, bioconjugates and material science
• Expert in synthesis and analytical techniques for small molecules, nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides and/or peptides
• Excellent laboratory, experimental and organizational skills
• Strong team player with proven collaboration, innovation, and openness character traits
• Collaborates effectively at a program level and with stakeholders
• Attention to detail
• A self-starter, positive, and driven with a “can do” attitude.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s or Masters degree in chemistry or materials science with 4+ years of related experience
• Industrial experience is highly desirable
