Safety & Wellbeing Worker

 

Hours: 30 hours per week

    Salary: £27,126.00 - £29,193.00 (pro rata  £21,994.05 - £23,670.00)

    Contract: Permanent

    Base: Reading, Wokingham & Newbury   

     

    The Safety & Wellbeing Worker supports people following an incident of self-harm and/or suicidal thoughts, and who are assessed as not requiring secondary mental health care. Using a person-centred, non-judgemental approach, the Worker will aim to engage people to create and implement personalised safety plans, and will work with people through a combination of face-to-face or remote (phone or video) contact to address social and practical factors that may be relevant to their wellbeing or mental health.


    The role works closely with other local Mind services, the Psychological Medicine Service at Royal Berkshire Hospital A&E, and with the Community Mental Health Service  (CMHS) teams across Berkshire West. The worker will engage with partners and services in the community to create links and pathways that people experiencing mental health distress can utilise.

    • Knowledge around mental health and how to support people who are struggling.
    • Knowledge of safety planning and risk in relation to self-harm and suicidal ideation.
    • Experience working within mental health, wellbeing or similar services and as part of a team.
    • Experience of working with individuals enabling them to identify and pursue their own goals to support personal wellbeing and recovery following a period of crisis.
    • Experience of working in an often-demanding environment and supporting people with a range of needs.
    • Ability to work both collaboratively as a team and independently
    • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to use confidently use Outlook, Word and Excel at a basic level.
