Career Opportunity

We are looking for candidates to fill a Safety Specialist/Emergency Coordinator position at our Wallops Island, Virginia, station. The Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) at Wallops Island requires support in management, engineering, operations, and technical expertise for the activation, operation, maintenance, and engineering of equipment, systems, and computer programs. This support is crucial for all Naval Sea Systems Command and Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems missions and projects conducted at SCSC. SCSC offers live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric maritime environment, aimed at developing, testing, evaluating, and conducting fleet operations and training for the warfighter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Keep appraised of OSHA, NAVOSH, and local safety policies.
• Identify, document, track, and coordinate remedies for safety issues.
• Conduct inspections.
• Report and thoroughly document safety incidents.
• Assist senior safety personnel involved in operations related to construction projects and general industrial safety.  
• Assist senior safety personnel in the planning and execution of emergency management procedures. 

Travel

• This position includes a low level of travel.

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required

• One year of experience in a plant or facility as a safety professional.
• Knowledge of NAVOSH policies.
• Ability to plan, execute and report status of facilities related to heavy weather preparations, fire evacuations and emergency situations.
• Good written communications skills.

• None 

Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret security clearance highly desired however candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor or manager when not in the office.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations on base.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to frequently traverse stairs.
• Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling.
• Reaching, handling, using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices.
• Ability to lift items weighing up to 20 lbs.
