Your Role

As the Head of UX at RoomPriceGenie, you'll lead our small but mighty design and research team of two product designers and one user researcher.

This isn't an IC role where you'll be pushing pixels or running sessions yourself. It's a leadership role focused on building the function, championing the team, and setting them up for success.

You'll set the strategic direction for how design and research operates, advocate for the team at leadership level, and create the conditions for your people to do their best work. You'll also play a key role in raising design and research maturity across the wider product organisation โ€” guiding better decisions through clearer systems, guidelines, and shared insight.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership Representation & Advocacy

  • Champion design and research as a strategic partner that shapes the roadmap.

  • Partner with Product Leadership to translate strategic business priorities into a clear, sequenced roadmap for Design & Research.

Strategic Direction & Vision

  • Set a clear vision for the design and research function โ€” defining what success looks like, where it's heading, and how it contributes to the company's overall strategy.

  • Raise design and research maturity by providing constructive critique and quality oversight to support high-quality product outcomes.

  • Create the space for the team to work on foundational initiatives that scale team impact. For example: evolving the component library into a robust design system and establishing clear design and content playbooks to drive consistency, efficiency, and quality.

AI Operations & Enablement

  • Set the strategic direction for how AI fits into the design & research workflow โ€” where it accelerates, where craft stays human, and set clear guardrails for how the wider org uses it.

  • Foster a culture where the team integrates AI into product work โ€” evolving their craft and building fluency through practice.

  • Ensure designers and researchers play a key role in shaping product and AI direction, grounding decisions in user insight and design perspective.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Advocate for Design Thinking to be embedded throughout the product life cycle, shaping ideas and guiding decisions.

  • Proactively identify large, strategic UX opportunities that span across the product.

  • Navigate competing priorities between leadership direction and team capacity, ensuring the team stays focused on high-impact work.

Team Development & Coaching

  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback through regular one-to-ones โ€” focused on the development and growth of your team.

  • Build clear career frameworks and progression paths for Design and Research.

  • Encourage continuous learning, adaptability, and development within the team.

Your Profile

  • A genuine understanding of both design and research disciplines, even if your background leans more toward one. You don't need to be an expert in both, but you need to value and support both equally.

  • Proven experience in a senior design leadership role is required โ€” you've owned a function, led teams of designers and researchers, and have a track record of influencing product direction at the leadership level.

  • A track record of advocating for both disciplines at the leadership level and influencing product strategy, not just delivering on it.

  • Experience building or maturing a design function: establishing processes, systems, playbooks, or ways of working from the ground up.

  • Curiosity about AI and how it's changing the way design and research teams work โ€” you don't need to be an expert, but you should be excited about figuring this out with the team.

Your Soft Skills

  • A compassionate, proactive leadership style that creates emotional safety for the people around you.

  • Confident navigating difficult stakeholder dynamics without losing your composure or your team's trust.

  • Strong communicator who can translate design value into language that resonates with leadership, product, and engineering.

  • Comfortable giving and receiving direct feedback โ€” you see it as a gift.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in or familiarity with the hotel or travel industry.

  • Familiarity with building or scaling teams.

  • Experience building and maintaining a design system.

  • Experience working in scale-ups or startups โ€” you're comfortable with ambiguity and thrive in environments that are still finding their shape.
