About this role

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.   Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.   Location & Team Gatherings   Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016.  We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.   We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture. About This Role   As part of Intersect’s Engineering team, you'll help ensure our utility-scale solar portfolio performs at its highest potential. You'll combine deep technical expertise with real-world impact by leading PV capacity testing, refining advanced energy models, and translating complex performance data into actionable insights that maximize long-term asset value.   Working closely with Asset Management, Project Engineering, and Operations, you'll deliver defensible performance assessments and engineering solutions that strengthen reliability, optimize generation, and improve the long-term performance of our operating fleet.   Team Overview   The Engineering team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect's mission by ensuring our projects are designed, built, and operated for long-term value and technical excellence. Partnering across Development, Construction, Finance, Asset Management, and Operations, the team applies deep technical expertise to optimize asset performance, reduce risk, and continuously improve our growing portfolio. Joining this team means helping solve complex engineering challenges while contributing to infrastructure that powers communities and supports the future of clean energy.   What You'll Do   Lead PV Capacity Testing & Performance Validation Plan and execute PV capacity testing in accordance with ASTM E2848, delivering accurate, defensible assessments of plant performance. Develop testing protocols, coordinate field execution, and synthesize results into clear technical reports. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to validate performance guarantees and resolve performance discrepancies. Analyze testing results and plant data to support operational improvements and long-term asset performance.   Resolve Plant Performance Challenges Analyze DC collection systems and large-scale plant performance data to identify the root causes of underperformance. Lead technical investigations into plant performance issues and recommend corrective actions. Support Operations teams in troubleshooting DC collection system issues after commercial operation. Translate complex engineering findings into practical, business-focused recommendations for cross-functional partners.   Advance Energy Modeling & Long-Term Optimization Develop and enhance advanced PV energy models that improve operational strategy and forecasting accuracy. Evaluate degradation trends, loss factors, and system behavior to maximize long-term energy production. Continuously refine modeling assumptions using operating plant data and performance analytics. Deliver technical analyses that improve portfolio performance and support long-term planning.   Strengthen DC Collection System Reliability Support technical discussions with OEMs, EPC contractors, and construction teams regarding DC collection system design and performance. Lead reliability assessments of DC collection systems throughout the asset lifecycle. Provide engineering expertise during commissioning, performance testing, and post-commercial operations. Recommend design and operational improvements that enhance long-term system reliability.   Strengthen Technical Standards & Industry Leadership Ensure compliance with electrical safety codes, ASTM testing standards, and industry best practices. Contribute to internal engineering standards, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing. Collaborate with independent engineers, testing providers, and industry organizations to maintain technical excellence. Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve engineering practices.   What You'll Bring   Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical discipline. 4+ years of experience in PV energy modeling, utility-scale solar engineering, or with an independent power producer. Direct experience supporting utility-scale solar projects through commissioning, capacity testing, or operational performance engineering. Demonstrated expertise conducting ASTM E2848 PV capacity and performance testing. Advanced proficiency in PV energy modeling and large-scale plant performance analytics. Strong understanding of DC collection systems, plant design, and the key drivers of solar asset performance. Knowledge of electrical safety codes, grid integration requirements, and applicable industry standards. Proven ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear, actionable business recommendations. Experience collaborating across Engineering, Asset Management, Operations, EPC contractors, OEMs, and external engineering partners. Established relationships within the PV performance and engineering community, including independent engineers or testing providers. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. A collaborative, intellectually curious approach with the confidence to lead technical evaluations while fostering inclusive teamwork. Alignment with Intersect's values of Equity, Humility, Authenticity, Long-run Value, and People Come First.
