Responsibilities

Part-time Ambassadors will act as the eyes and ears of the Bloomberg Student Center (BSC), supporting Operations Managers by reporting issues, troubleshooting, assisting with the supervision of part-time staff on shift, enforcing policies, and coordinating emergency responses. These employees must maintain a customer service mindset, proactively seeking opportunities to assist and support, and escalating situations to BSC leadership, public safety, and other building partners as needed.

 

This position will work on-site at Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. JHU is recognized as America’s first research university, a place that has revolutionized higher education in the U.S. and continues to bring knowledge and discoveries to the world. JHU opened its first-ever student center in August 2025.  The 148,000 gross square feet Bloomberg Student Center will transform the student experience by providing spaces, amenities, and opportunities for students who want to socialize, connect, create, and relax.  The building is designed to be a welcoming environment for all Hopkins students while extending an invitation to the community through events, programs, and dining opportunities.​

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with on-shift supervision of and feedback to part-time staff for performance coaching and work assignment
  • Perform routine facility rounds throughout shift for supervision of student staff, troubleshooting and maintaining cleanliness of the equipment and facility
  • Support the respond to all medical and non-medical emergencies and provide care; initiate emergency action plan, notify university and local authorities and complete reports
  • Assist part-time staff with tasks and assume responsibilities of an area if not staffed
  • Communicate and consistently enforce policies with patrons and staff
  • Provide excellent customer service, facility tours, and resolve guest concerns
  • Report injuries, incidents, member and guest issues maintenance issues, and staff issues

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled Johns Hopkins University student preferred
  • Previous work experience preferred
  • Experience working in customer service, fitness center, retail or events preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently

  • Excellent communication skills including active listening
  • Service-oriented and able to resolve customer grievances
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills with the ability to learn new software
  • Ability and willingness to enforce policies

Physical Demands

  • Walking or working in student center 95% of the work day
  • Must be able to traverse throughout the building and campus.
  • Regularly ascending/descending building levels and occasionally ladders or stools.
  • Must be able to lift, move and set up items weighing as much as 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with patrons, staff, stakeholders, etc.
