The Opportunity
Position Summary:
Responsible for delivering assessment and treatment services to clients referred by Veterans' Affairs Canada (VAC), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as part of an interdisciplinary
team.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing diagnostic clinical assessments to support disability applications and treatment recommendations, including administering and interpreting standardized psychological assessment instruments.
- Designing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with an interdisciplinary treatment team based on assessed client needs.
- Delivering individual and group evidence-based mental health interventions for diagnosed operational stress injury (OSI) - related conditions. Treatment interventions must align with national and international clinical best practice guidelines.
- Providing episodic care within a tertiary mental health services setting.
- Utilizing routine outcome monitoring tools, including the OQ-45, to assess symptom severity, functional impairment, and treatment effectiveness.
- Working effectively within an interdisciplinary team, including active participation in collaborative consultation, clinical goal setting, program evaluation, and program development activities.
Program Summary
The Carewest Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic is an outpatient clinic funded by Veterans Affairs Canada that supports current and former Canadian Forces members, and current and former members of the RCMP suffering from an Operational Stress Injury who require specialized assessment and treatment. The main clinic is in Calgary, AB, and there is a satellite location in Red Deer, AB.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master's degree or doctoral degree in Psychology from a recognized university program. Doctoral degree preferred.
- Registration in good standing, or eligibility for registration, with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
- Experience working with military personnel, veterans, first responders, RCMP members, or other public safety personnel an asset.
- Advanced knowledge and clinical experience in the assessment and treatment of OSIs, trauma-related disorders, and anxiety and mood disorders, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
- Proven experience delivering effective individual and group psychotherapy within a structured clinical setting.
- Demonstrated competency in psychological assessment, case conceptualization, and evidence-based psychotherapy.
