EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
A Psychiatrist Faculty member in an academic medical center or medical school bridges patient care with the education of medical students and psychology students. This role demands an MD or DO degree, active state medical licensure, and American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (AOBNP) or American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) certification/eligibility.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

1. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Patient Care: Provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and consultation services to patients seen in the outpatient settings of PCOM Psychological Services (Suite 315), the Memory Clinic, and the PCOM Primary Care Healthcare Centers.

  • Multidisciplinary Team Leadership: Lead psychiatric care teams and meetings concerning patients seen at PCOM Healthcare Centers as well as provide consultation to attending physicians, medical students, psychologists, and psychology interns and practicum students.

  • Specialties: Depending on the appointment, duties may focus on acute care or specific comorbid medical and behavioral health needs in the outpatient setting. 

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely clinical records within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
     

2. Teaching & Education

  • Trainee Supervision: Provide didactic presentations to medical students, psychology practicum students and psychology interns as scheduled during the year.  Interprofessional education and team-based care participation is expected.  Precept multiple PCOM medical students each month in the outpatient setting.  

  • Curriculum Development: Participate in or lead seminar series, lectures, and case conferences for various levels of medical education.  Contribute and interface with the third-year core Psychiatry clerkship director and online blended learning preceptors for the active learning component of the curriculum.

  • Other Duties as assigned.
     

3. Research & Scholarly Activity

  • Research & Grants: Availability to pursue independent research, apply for grants, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals. 

  • Quality Improvement (QI): Participate in scholarly projects aimed at improving care delivery, reducing health disparities, and implementing clinical protocols. 
     

4. Institutional & Administrative Duties

  • Committee Service: Serve on departmental or institutional committees.

  • Mentorship: Participate in faculty development plans and provide ongoing evaluations for department personnel

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Training: Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency program.

  • Licensure: Eligibility or possession of an unrestricted medical license, DEA, and Controlled Substance Registration in Pennsylvania.

  • Board Status: Board Certified or Board Eligible by the AOBNP or ABPN

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.

Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, education, and the responsibilities of the role.

The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
