We are seeking a diligent and experienced Safety Coordinator to join our team.


As the Project Safety Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that all our construction activities comply with safety regulations and standards. You will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and subcontractors to implement and maintain safety protocols, procedures, and training programs. This role will include providing safety support for our operations in the Rio Grande Valley areas with occasional trips to the San Antonio and Houston Areas. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • As the Project Safety Coordinator, you will lead the charge in risk mitigation, compliance, and site security. Your core focus areas will include:
  • Direct and oversee safety enforcement in strict accordance with the UT Rolling Owner Controlled Insurance Program (ROCIP).
  • Administer and enforce project-specific safety programs and procedures.
  •  Conduct daily job site safety inspections and audits.
  • Facilitate safety orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Pre-Task Plans.
  • Coordinate with project management, subcontractors, and owner representatives to maintain compliance.
  • Monitor fall protection, excavation, crane activities, scaffolding, confined space operations, and other high-risk work.
  • Maintain required safety documentation and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, owner requirements, and project safety specifications.


Qualifications & Expertise

We are looking for a safety leader who meets the following strict criteria:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • At least seven (7) consecutive years dedicated exclusively to building construction safety, including a minimum of five (5) years in a Safety Management role.


Mandatory Certifications

  • OSHA 500 – Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction or
  • OSHA 502 – Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers

In addition, candidates must maintain current certifications in:

  • Current, in-person verified certifications for First Aid, CPR, and AED (within the last 2 years)


Practical knowledge, verified field experience, and documented continuing education (minimum 4+ hours per topic)

  • Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Excavation, Trenching, Confined Spaces, Crane Operations, Basic Crane Rigging, Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Incident Investigation, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Prevention, Respiratory Protection


Ideal Skills

  • Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to coach, mentor, and train project team
  • Highly flexible with the ability to pivot quickly as fast-paced job site conditions evolve
  • A deep, comprehensive understanding of the overall commercial construction process
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and modern construction safety application tools.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to conditions that include weather such as heat and/or humidity and cold, fumes or airborne particles, exposure to dust and asphalt, and moving mechanical parts. There may be occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Conditions can also include risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment can often be loud. The Assistant Quality Control Manager is regularly required to: • Walk, climb stairs, sit, and stand. • Talk and hear at normal levels. • See with close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and have the ability to adjust focus. • Reach with hands and arms. • Use hands and fingers to operate tools and other business machines. • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
