Why this role matters 

This role supports and leads the design of technically compliant MV and HV interconnection projects, with a strong focus on primary plant, HV/MV equipment, and substation design. You will help ensure technical and contractual requirements are reflected in project solutions, supporting development, execution, and operations through sound engineering assessments, due diligence, stakeholder engagement, and design reviews. 

What you’ll be doing 

In this role, you will: 

  • Support and review interconnection solutions based on project, utility, and grid requirements.

  • Develop technical base cases, specifications, and design inputs for interconnection works.

  • Coordinate and review primary plant system design packages, including outsourced detailed designs.

  • Review technical documentation, contracts, grid codes, and connection agreements to define project requirements.

  • Support supplier evaluations, RFP documentation, and technical schedules for key project contracts.

  • Review substation, transmission line, earthing, equipment selection, fire protection, cable sizing, lightning protection, and related interfaces.

  • Support execution teams through design alignment, site visits, testing, commissioning, energisation, and project close-out.

  • Provide technical support to operations by investigating issues and improving relevant operational systems.

What you’ll bring 

Experience and qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or Electronic Engineering.

  • Minimum 4 years of electrical engineering experience, including experience in a project environment.

  • Experience in distribution, reticulation, HV/MV equipment, substation design, or transmission line design.

  • Strong understanding of renewable energy project interconnection design and execution.

  • Sound knowledge of utility interfaces, grid requirements, and contracts related to energy generation projects.

  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with AutoCAD, PowerFactory DigSilent, ETAP, or PSCAD is advantageous.

  • Fluent in Arabic and English, spoken and written.

  • Independent, analytical, proactive, and comfortable working across functions, stakeholders, and cultures.

  • Willing and able to travel internationally, work extended hours when required, and support site-based activities in varied conditions.
