Job Description

The Opportunity

As a Project Engineer, you will support the successful delivery of EHV infrastructure projects across the electricity distribution network.

Working across a portfolio of substation plant replacement, reinforcement and customer connection schemes, you will be responsible for managing projects through the full lifecycle, from feasibility and optioneering through design development, construction, commissioning and final handover.

This role requires a combination of strong technical engineering knowledge and project delivery capability, with opportunities to work on complex infrastructure projects at voltage levels from 11kV to 132kV.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver EHV substation projects from concept through to completion.
  • Support the delivery of plant replacement, reinforcement and customer connection schemes across 11kV, 33kV, 66kV and 132kV networks.
  • Develop and review engineering solutions, feasibility studies and project options.
  • Coordinate design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Manage project programmes, costs, risks and resource requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards, safety legislation, CDM requirements and quality processes.
  • Interface with customers, contractors, suppliers and key stakeholders.
  • Support outage planning and network access arrangements where required.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates on programme, cost and risk.
  • Ensure project documentation, asset records and technical data are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to engineering best practice.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and health and safety requirements.
  • NEBOSH or equivalent qualification desirable.
  • Experience delivering projects within electricity transmission and distribution networks or analogous electrical infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge of substation plant and equipment operating at 11kV, 33kV and 66kV, with exposure to 132kV desirable.
  • Experience working on plant replacement, reinforcement and customer connection projects.
  • Understanding of:
    • Power transformers
    • Switchgear
    • Protection and control systems
    • Substation primary plant
    • Associated civil infrastructure
  • Experience working on greenfield and brownfield substation projects.
  • Knowledge of AIS and GIS substations.
  • Experience managing project costs, programme activities and stakeholder interfaces.

Additional Information

This is a hybrid role, involving a blend of home working, time spent at Client and Omnia Projects offices, and regular site visits across the North East region.

Key office locations include:

• Client: Newcastle, Sunderland, York, Castleford, Hull, Sheffield

• Omnia Projects: Northallerton & Leeds

These are long-term roles. Engagement can be on a PAYE, Limited Company (Inside IR35) or contingent worker basis.
