Job Role

We are looking for an experienced Production Music Library Consultant to help us develop the reach and usage of the PAL catalogue, initially across the UK and with the potential to support international growth.

This is a flexible consultancy role for someone who understands the production music world from the inside and who combines strong industry relationships, commercial instinct, excellent music knowledge and confidence with music metadata and digital library technology.

You will help shape the growth of a modern production music library, using your existing industry expertise and network to identify and develop relationships with production companies, television producers, editors, post-production teams, music supervisors, agencies, broadcasters and other professional music users.

You will also analyse how people are searching for and using production music, feeding that knowledge back into the development, presentation and discoverability of the PAL catalogue.

Finally, you will already have good experience managing library platforms, creating releases, and handling large amounts of metadata.

Business development / Relationships

• Use existing industry network to identify potential new users of the PAL catalogue across UK television, film, advertising, digital, branded content, post production and other relevant media sectors.
• Develop and maintain relationships with existing production companies, producers, editors, and other clients.
• Develop a structured approach to outreach and relationship building.
• Identify opportunities for PAL within areas of the media industry where production music is increasingly being used, including for existing clients.
• Attend relevant industry meetings, networking opportunities and events where appropriate
  

Music Curation / Creative Expertise

• Demonstrate a strong understanding of production music and how music is selected and used within television, film, advertising and digital content.
• Familiarise yourself with the music already in the library and respond to various requests and briefs, by identifying appropriate tracks and creating playlists.
• Help users get the best from the PAL catalogue, by demonstrating AI and keyword search, playlist creation, saving and sharing functions.
• Understand the difference between simply supplying music and providing a genuinely useful creative music service.
• Monitor changes in the production music and sync landscape and identify emerging opportunities for the catalogue.
• Keep a record of and provide regular feedback on gaps in the catalogue, changing user requirements, genres, moods, themes, formats and areas of demand.

Metadata / technology / catalogue management

• Apply a strong eye for detail, a creative flair and a practical understanding of production music metadata and tagging.
• Work confidently with SharePoint, audio files, spreadsheets, library applications and digital music platforms.
• Understand the importance of accurate, consistent and useful metadata to both the client and to peermusic.
• Assess whether tracks are being described and tagged in ways that reflect how real world users search for music, and make improvements based on the results.
• Understand music data, cue sheets, rights information and the relationship between catalogue metadata and music usage.
• Experience with platforms such as DISCO, AIMS, Harvest or similar music library and catalogue management systems would be highly advantageous

International development

Although the initial focus will be the UK, PAL sits within the international peermusic organisation and the role has the potential to contribute to developing the catalogue's international user base.

You will help identify International production companies and media organisations, editors, music supervisors as well as other potential partners, such as library sub publishers or other routes to market.

Experience of working across international territories would therefore be highly valuable.

Prior Experience

We are looking for someone who already has hands-on experience in the production music industry and a strong understanding of how professional music users work.

You will ideally have an established network within the UK media and production industry, with contacts that you feel could benefit from use of the library.

Working arrangement

This is a part time consultancy role of approximately 1 to 2 days per week, with flexibility around how those days are structured.

The role will be predominantly home based within the UK, with occasional meetings, industry events and client visits where appropriate.

The consultancy is intended to be flexible and could suit someone who already works independently within the music, television or media industries and is looking for an additional consultancy opportunity.

The successful candidate will work closely with the peermusic Accorder team to develop a clear programme of UK and international user growth.
