Why this role matters?

As a Managing Consultant - Product Sustainability, you will support ERM’s global Product Sustainability delivery by providing senior-level expertise in product safety, hazard communication, and regulatory compliance. Working closely with global Product Stewardship, EHS, R&D, Supply Chain, Legal, and business stakeholders, you will ensure accurate product safety information, regulatory compliance, and high-quality delivery across regions. This role is critical in maintaining data integrity, supporting compliant product commercialization, and driving consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement across ERM’s global product sustainability services. 

What your impact is?

  • Lead complex Safety Data Sheet (SDS) authoring, reviews, and hazard classification activities, ensuring globally compliant product safety documentation.
  • Interpret and apply global product safety and chemical regulations, supporting compliance across multiple regions and markets.
  • Drive data quality, governance, and audit readiness within product safety systems, ensuring accurate and reliable regulatory information.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by providing technical guidance and mentoring team members on product stewardship and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve complex product safety challenges and implement continuous process improvements.

What will you bring?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, Toxicology, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or a related scientific discipline; an advanced degree is advantageous
  • 7-12 years of relevant experience in Product Sustainability, Product Safety, Product Stewardship, Hazard Communication, EHS or chemical regulatory compliance, including experience handling complex global product-safety work.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of SAP S/4HANA and SAP EHS, including CG* transactions and product-safety data management.
  • Strong knowledge of UN GHS and EU CLP regulations, with demonstrated experience applying classification and hazard-communication requirements to substances and mixtures.
  • Experience creating and governing SDS/product safety documentation and performing senior-level quality or peer reviews.
  • Strong analytical judgement, stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex regulatory topics to non-specialists and work effectively across global teams.

Preferred qualifications, skills & competencies

  • Knowledge of dangerous goods regulations, including IATA, ADR, RID, ADN, IMDG and US 49 CFR.
  • Broader knowledge of chemical/product regulations such as REACH, TSCA, RoHS, OSHA HazCom or regional equivalents.
  • Experience with regulatory notifications/submissions, multilingual SDS/label governance, SAP EHS implementation/enhancement projects, compliance reporting or system testing.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring junior colleagues in product safety, regulatory or SAP EHS processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead complex SDS authoring, review and maintenance activities across products and regions, ensuring scientific accuracy, regulatory compliance and consistent hazard communication.
  • Perform and review advanced substance and mixture hazard classifications using UN GHS and EU CLP principles, resolving complex or ambiguous classification cases and documenting the technical rationale.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for SAP S/4HANA and SAP EHS product safety processes, including relevant CG* transactions, data governance, troubleshooting and quality controls.
  • Interpret regulatory changes and translate them into practical impacts for SDS, classifications, labels, SAP EHS data, procedures and stakeholder actions.
  • Lead complex product safety and regulatory queries, coordinating inputs from global stakeholders and ensuring clear, defensible and timely responses.
  • Provide technical guidance and peer review to specialists, promoting consistent standards, strong documentation practices and capability development across the team.
  • Partner with Product Stewardship, EHS, R&D/technical, supply chain, legal and business stakeholders to support compliant products, launches and business continuity.
  • Drive data-quality, audit-readiness and continuous-improvement initiatives, including SAP EHS enhancements, UAT/regression testing, reporting, templates and workflow improvements.
  • Support or lead regulatory submissions, notifications and compliance documentation where required, maintaining complete and traceable records.
