About this role

Chronic disease isn't managed in a clinic. It is managed at home, in relationships, in the everyday. What's on the dinner table, what gets said, and who notices when someone's struggling. For the 130 million Americans managing a chronic condition, the healthcare system has offered the same answer for decades: a 15-minute doctor's visit, a pamphlet, and a portal login they'll never use.

At Nuna, we are building an AI health coach that shows up like a person who actually has time: available at 3am, infinitely patient, and never behind a waiting room. We use motivational interviewing to help patients and their families see themselves clearly, design experiments that fit their real lives, and navigate a system that has not historically been on their side. We are building from the ground up around a simple belief: patients don't want to be healthy; they want their lives back.

We're not competing with other health apps. We're competing with the moment a person gives up on getting better. If that's a problem you want to work on, we'd like to talk.

Your team

Our products are only as good as the care and science behind them. We are a small team of engineers, designers, product managers, and clinicians who work together to build for both patients and providers.

You will be expected to own real pieces of the product from day one and be responsible for building, shipping, and supporting them in production.

Design sets the bar for the character, tone, and visual impact of our products and is responsible for designing experiences that are intuitive and compelling to use. Nuna Designers embrace their superpower to visualize the ideal user experience, rapidly testing and iterating on solutions while aligning the teams on a common vision.

The role

This is a highly visible role across the organization, requiring extensive cross-functional collaboration and engagement. It also necessitates deep empathy for and understanding of patient healthcare and wellness journeys; the primary focus of our work. This is an opportunity to play a critical part in conceptualizing and launching Nuna’s patient and provider experiences

What you’ll do

  • Design AI-first, consumer-facing applications and contribute to Nuna’s patient and provider experiences.

  • Develop and communicate a clear, compelling experience design for the product that aligns the interest of all relevant stakeholders.

  • Promote user-centric design strategies, utilizing quantitative and qualitative ux research and competitive analysis to inform product recommendations and decisions.

  • Develop and implement prototypes and documentation deliverables that effectively communicate design intent.

  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, and healthcare experts to deliver scalable solutions.

  • Contribute to internal process development initiatives that optimize and scale Design’s contribution to successful Nuna products and culture.

  • Expertly develop and deliver internal and public presentations.

What we’re looking for

  • A passion for designing innovative products that improve healthcare outcomes paired with an enthusiasm to shape a mission-driven design culture.

  • 5+ years of full product lifecycle design experience supported by a portfolio showcasing direct-to-consumer digital product design

  • Demonstrated experience designing for consumer audiences across mobile apps with a preference for having designed responsive web experiences.

  • Proven track record as an individual contributor able to execute and deliver through uncertainty, possessing a highly-adaptable sense of process and strong point of view.

  • Mastery of design principles, research methodologies, tools, and best practices.

  • Expert-level proficiency in Figma — from layout and prototyping to design systems and handoff workflows

  • Strong visual and interaction design craft, with attention to typography, layout, spacing, color, and motion

  • Excellent communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively across multidisciplinary teams, bringing the voice of design.

  • Aligned with a culture of giving, receiving, and responding to feedback. A proactive problem solver, unafraid to tackle complex challenges and drive them to resolution.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI or equivalent experience
