Job Description

As a Process Engineer in Greenfield, IN, you will play a vital role in reducing product and process variation through Six Sigma and statistical tools, alongside the implementation or improvement of existing procedures and process controls. Operating within a safety-focused environment, you will drive process optimization, problem-solving, and lean thinking, providing technical engineering support to enhance operational reliability, minimize scrap, and elevate product quality.

Key Responsibilities

Work Location: Onsite

  • Continually improve and optimize current products through variability reduction, support new product launches with marketing teams, and partner with vendors to establish raw material specifications that align with customer needs and expectations.

  • Initiate, design, implement, and sustain equipment and process upgrades—including unwinding, splicing, web guiding, coating, tension control, drying/curing, moisturization, cooling, laminating, and winding—performing feasibility studies to minimize scrap, increase productivity, and improve quality.

  • Provide daily manufacturing support to investigate and resolve work-in-process, production, and quality issues; maintain on-call availability for technical process support; partner with maintenance to ensure equipment reliability; and track key performance metrics on the Roll Editor and coaters.

  • Plan sequences of operations, specify processing procedures, establish equipment requirements, and perform continuous testing and measurements (tension, moisture content, temperature, percent solids, pressure) while applying principles of chemistry, physics, and material analysis to component failures and system design allowables.

  • Champion safety as the primary organizational value through EH&S participation and training, manage assigned standard engineering projects within target timelines and budgets, and serve as an active Greenfield support team member contributing to associate development and cross-functional improvement.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering required, with 3 to 5 years of plant engineering experience

  • Six Sigma experience is highly desired.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in process optimization, web handling, coating, and SPC or related quality control methods and process documentation.

  • Solid understanding of applicable computer systems, including Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, and function-specific software.

  • Dynamic, proactive, and self-energized team player with a proven can-do attitude, strong credibility, and a track record as a change agent balancing strategic and tactical thinking skills.

  • Ability to foster strong working relationships with all levels of the organization.

  • Strong organizational, detail-oriented, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to delegate effectively and interface cross-functionally in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
