Do you want to play a key role in developing and optimizing advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes? At Coherent, we are looking for a Process Engineer to join our Process & Equipment Engineering team and take ownership of critical manufacturing processes within our Bar Fab operation.

In this role, you will combine hands-on engineering with process development, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives in a high-tech cleanroom environment. You will work closely with production, R&D, reliability, and engineering teams to improve manufacturing performance, support new product introductions, and drive innovation in photonics manufacturing.

What You'll Do

As Process Engineer, you will be responsible for sustaining and improving manufacturing processes related to cleaving, bar handling, stacking, and associated equipment within our semiconductor production environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Owning and developing manufacturing processes within your designated area
  • Supporting production efficiency, product quality, yield improvement, and reliability activities
  • Developing robust and capable processes for production, qualification, and development work
  • Creating and maintaining process specifications, operating procedures, and manufacturing documentation
  • Training and supporting technicians and operators on processes, equipment, and best practices
  • Establishing and monitoring Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Leading design of experiments (DOE), qualifications, root cause investigations, and process improvement activities
  • Driving investments and upgrades in equipment and manufacturing capabilities
  • Developing automation solutions, tooling, fixtures, and mechatronic concepts
  • Improving yield, process capability, cycle time, and manufacturing efficiency
  • Acting as the subject matter expert within your process area

You will also have the authority to make technical decisions within your area of responsibility and lead problem-solving activities, including temporarily stopping and restarting production following significant process deviations.

Who You'll Work With

The role involves close collaboration with:

  • Process Engineers, Test Engineers, Process Technicians, and Maintenance teams
  • Process Integration Engineers, R&D Engineers, and Reliability Engineers
  • Colleagues at other Coherent sites globally, including Sherman, Fremont, and Zurich
  • Equipment and technology suppliers

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who thrives in a manufacturing environment and enjoys solving complex technical challenges. You are proactive, structured, and comfortable driving change while working closely with cross-functional teams.

We believe you have:

  • A B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Experience from a semiconductor fab, photonics manufacturing, or a similar high-tech production environment
  • Strong technical knowledge within manufacturing processes, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, automation, or related disciplines
  • Experience working with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and data-driven process improvements
  • A systematic and organized approach to problem solving
  • A hands-on mindset and willingness to work close to the manufacturing process
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Fluency in English; Swedish is considered an advantage

What We Offer

At Coherent, you'll work with cutting-edge photonics and semiconductor technologies that help enable the innovations of tomorrow. You'll be part of a collaborative and highly skilled engineering environment where your ideas and technical expertise will have a direct impact on manufacturing performance and product quality.

Please note that a significant portion of this role is performed in our Bar Fab cleanroom environment.
