Job Description

This role is a SCADA-focused role working with the Central Process Control Engineering team and supporting regional design and delivery teams in the design, delivery and commissioning of communications and SCADA systems for monitoring and control of utility scale Renewable Energy Plants and Grid Services projects across Europe, but with particular focus on projects in Germany. 

Key activities and responsibilities: 

  • Design and review of SCADA monitoring and control systems for utility scale Renewable Energy plants and Grid Services projects, particularly in Germany 
  • Act as lead coordinator for Regional Engineering and procurement teams in the specification and selection of SCADA hardware and relevant suppliers 
  • Work with regional Project Management and Engineering teams to coordinate with external parties such as Grid Operators and Market Agents for activities such as grid code compliance testing 
  • Support regional Project Management and field teams during construction and commissioning phases of the projects 
  • Produce SCADA handover documentation for O&M and Asset Management teams 
  • Support O&M and Asset Management teams during operational phase of the projects 
  • Liaise with manufacturers throughout all relevant stages of the project 
  • Participate in Statkraft internal Expert Groups to maintain technical specifications and standards up to date 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of developments within the SCADA industry, bringing new developments for review and where appropriate applying them into new projects

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering or similar technical field
  • Experience of SCADA system design and application 
  • Knowledge of Communication Networks, Cybersecurity, Interfaces, and Industrial Communication Protocols 
  • Knowledge of HV Substation Network and protocols used: IEC 60870, IEC 61850. Integration into third party SCADA and real time data exchange with Grid Operator 
  • Experience in working with Utility ScalePower Plant controllers 
  • Understanding of electrical and control diagrams. Positive knowledge of CAD tools 
  • Experience in PV, Wind and Energy Storage SCADA design and operation 
  • Experience in the Renewable Energy industry in a technical, engineering or analysis role 
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix basic commands over console 
  • Remote access using secure shell (SSH) and RDP 
  • Knowledge of Modbus TCP/IP and RTU protocols, and tools such as modpoll and modbus poll 
  • Basic knowledge about PLCs and Hybrid Controllers is desirable. Knowledge about communications hardware such as Serial to Ethernet Gateways, Switches, Analogue and DIO modules and Fibre converters 
  • Fluency in German and English is required for this role
