Principal Analytics Engineer

Your day to day is…

• Designing and building production data models in a modern cloud warehouse that unify customer, order, catalog, and fulfillment data across multiple brands and platforms
• Owning the customer and household layer of the warehouse, the modeled output of identity resolution, and the profile that marketing, merchandising, and personalization all consume
• Establishing data contracts and freshness SLAs with the teams that own OMS, POS, inventory, and merchandising systems, and monitoring those feeds so downstream consumers don't have to
• Building the semantic layer and certified metrics that make self-serve reporting trustworthy, and partnering with analysts to drive adoption of it
• Setting the standards for testing, documentation, CI, and observability in the analytics codebase, and holding the team to them
• Designing PII and PCI handling into models from the start, with masking, tokenization, and role-based access as defaults rather than retrofits
• Preparing clean, well-documented, well-governed datasets for the AI and personalization teams that build on top of them
• Partnering with data engineering on ingestion and orchestration as new brands, systems, and third-party sources come online

You'll be successful in this role if you have…

• 7+ years as an analytics engineer, data engineer, or in a closely related role, including time at staff or principal level
• 3+ years building production transformation models with a modern modeling framework, and deep grounding in dimensional modeling and warehouse design
• Expert SQL in a cloud data warehouse, including performance tuning and cost awareness
• Retail or e-commerce data experience: orders, returns, fulfillment, catalog and SKU hierarchies, promotions, and the ways each of these gets messy at scale
• Experience integrating data across multiple brands, platforms, or post-acquisition environments, where the same customer and the same product exist differently in every system
• Working knowledge of identity resolution and customer 360 concepts. You don't have to have built the matching engine, but you should know what to do with its output
• Proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with a pipeline orchestration tool
• Experience supporting a BI and visualization layer as a modeler, not just a consumer
• The judgment to work through ambiguity quickly, and the communication skills to explain a modeling tradeoff to a merchant or a marketer without jargon
• Fluency using AI coding tools as part of your daily workflow

Nice to have: experience with customer data platforms and activation tools; property or household data sources; master data management or data governance tooling; exposure to regulated payment data.

A note on tooling: several of our platform decisions are still open. We care much more about the depth of your modeling judgment than about which specific tools you've used, and the person in this role will have real influence over what we choose.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires you to sit, stand and perform general office functions. You may also be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required.
