About this role

Who we are looking for

This role sits within the Systematic Equity Beta portfolio management team, managing day-to-day investment activities, with exposure across index portfolio management, rebalancing, risk monitoring, exposure management and trade implementation.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop into a portfolio manager capable of managing indexed equity portfolios, explaining portfolio outcomes and contributing to process improvements across the team.

Prior experience managing portfolios is not required. However, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of investment markets and a genuine interest in portfolio implementation, benchmark and indexed equity investing.

The role will be best suited to someone who displays intellectual curiosity, sound judgement, a willingness to take ownership and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced investment environment.

What you will be responsible for

  • Management of indexed equity portfolios, including daily portfolio monitoring, cash management, investing/divesting cash flows, trade construction & execution

  • Analyze index changes, corporate actions and portfolio events, helping to form the most appropriate implementation approach.

  • Performance attribution analysis and explaining tracking results

  • Build familiarity with index vendor methodologies, market structure, liquidity, trading constraints and implementation risks.

  • Provide high level service for client facing teams, including helping to respond to client needs, prepare materials for presentations, and draft investment reports.

  • Work collaboratively with portfolio managers, traders, operations, risk, compliance, client teams and offshore partners.

  • Contribute to process improvement, automation and control enhancements that improve accuracy, service levels and desk efficiency.

  • Excellent numeracy skills are required, in particular the ability to analyze and evaluate numerical data and present findings

  • Absolute attention to detail and high degree of accuracy when working under pressure

  • A practical problem solver who can improve processes without adding unnecessary complexity.

  • A flexible approach to work, with ability to be both proactive and responsive

  • Application of creative thinking to problems and systems/process enhancements

  • A teammate who is intellectually curious, coachable and collaborative, but also comfortable working independently when deadlines are tight.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideally degree qualified with a finance / economics related focus with 3-7 years industry experience.

  • Experience within an asset owner, investment consulting, research, ratings, portfolio analytics, implementation, trading support or investment desk environment, with exposure to portfolio construction, performance, risk, execution or capital markets activities.

  • Currently studying for or planning to take CFA exams will be viewed favorably

Additional requirements

  • Either currently studying for or planning to take CFA exams (preferable)

  • Computer literate, especially for Microsoft Office applications

  • Demonstrable knowledge of different investment instruments (not necessarily equities)

  • Demonstrable knowledge of how investment performance is calculated
