Job Description

You'll use your phlebotomy expertise to support timely diagnostic testing for Veterans while working alongside an experienced laboratory team focused on quality, accuracy, and patient safety. You'll perform blood collection, specimen processing, and laboratory support activities that help ensure accurate diagnostic results and a positive patient experience.

Schedule: Full-Time | Day & Evening Shifts | Rotating Weekends | Overtime & Federal Holiday Coverage as Needed

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and specimen processing for inpatient units, outpatient clinics, the Emergency Department, and STAT, timed, and routine laboratory orders.
  • Prepare, package, and maintain specimen integrity for in-house analysis and reference laboratory testing while supporting multiple laboratory work areas as assigned.
  • Verify patient and specimen identification, document laboratory activities within approved electronic health record and laboratory systems, and protect patient privacy throughout the testing process.
  • Perform assigned patient testing, evaluate quality control results, and identify, document, and resolve specimen collection, processing, and testing issues.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention, laboratory quality, and patient safety standards while contributing to quality improvement initiatives and efficient laboratory workflow.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver patient-centered laboratory services that support timely clinical decision-making.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of recent phlebotomy experience.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Card holder required; ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Veterans Affairs Public Trust Clearance.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Preferred

  • Experience performing phlebotomy in hospital, emergency department, or multidisciplinary laboratory environments.
  • Familiarity with EHRs, laboratory information systems, and laboratory quality standards (CLSI, CAP).
