Job Summary:

The Perioperative Nurse Fellowship (PNF) program provides comprehensive education for surgical nursing, beginning with classroom instruction and hands-on simulation to build essential surgical skills. Following didactic learning, nurses undergo a structured clinical orientation with preceptor-guided experiences across multiple surgical specialties, supported by simulation and specialty specific training. Ongoing mentorship and weekly debriefings with clinical educators ensure continuous learning and a smooth transition into the operating room nurse role.

Didactic Period:
4-6 Weeks

Surgical Specialty Rotations:
4-6 Months

PNF Start date:
Monday 12/14/2026

External Candidates:
St Elizabeth General/Nursing Orientation: 12-7-26 through 12-11-26

Program Requirements:

o A 2-year work agreement is required upon acceptance. Associates are expected to maintain a 40-hour work week throughout the two-year agreement period.

o Must meet on-call requirement of 30-minute response time.

o Must have Compact/Multi-state License before the PNF class start date.

The licensed registered nurse is a professional nurse who is responsible and accountable for providing evidence-based clinical care to designated patients utilizing the nursing process. This is accomplished by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care according to established ethical/cultural codes and standards of nursing practices and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to achieve patient outcomes. The registered nurse is responsible to delegate tasks appropriately to other licensed and unlicensed health care team members. Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Requirements

Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Graduate from accredited School of Nursing, licensed to practice in the state where work is being performed. If eligible, must have a Compact (multi-state) License in their primary state of residence. Meets contact hour requirements for licensure, including all state-required courses. Focus of education promotes nurses’ ability to practice in clinical area assigned.

Must have Compact/Multi-state License before the PNF class start date

Specialized Knowledge:
Demonstrates knowledge of nursing theory, clinical practice standards, procedures, policies and competence in mathematical calculations associated with medication administration. Competent to independently perform safe nursing skills and procedures.

Kind and Length of Experience:
Successful completion of preceptorship and orientation to the facility and clinical area. Able to critically think and problem solve in routine and emergency situations.
