Patient Encounter Specialist
About this role
JOB PURPOSE:
The job of the Patient Encounter Specialist is to greet patients and welcome them into the office,
schedule appointments by phone and schedule follow up appointments in a face-to-face setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Registers new patients.
Collects co-payments or balances on out-standing accounts.
Inputs insurance information.
Scans a photo id and insurance card(s).
Checks patients in and notify the nurse/provider that the patient is here and ready to be taken back.
Checks patients out.
Answers all phone calls that come into your line.
Makes follow up appointments per the provider’s instructions.
Helps the provider in any way he/she might ask of you.
Types letters or send faxes for the provider or nurse if asked.
Assists filing charts and pull them for the next day.
Takes messages for other staff members and provider if the patient or person does not want to leave a voice
message and make sure they are delivered to the correct person.
Calls the next day’s patients before you leave if you are in an office that doesn’t have an automated calling system to
remind patients of their appointments.
Ensures the provider has finished all charting before the chart is filed.
Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
Working knowledge of how a medical office runs.
At least one year of experience working in the medical field would be preferred but not required.
CPR Certified preferred.

Ability to lift minimum 25 pounds.
Ability to perform job responsibilities in a facility with multiple levels and without elevator or mechanical transportation.
Operates a computer and keyboard.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in an outpatient facility environment.
