About this role

Summary

The Part-Time Painter supports the Facilities & Maintenance Department by performing interior and exterior painting, surface preparation, and minor wall repairs across campus buildings. This role helps maintain the appearance, protection, and longevity of campus facilities by ensuring walls, trim, ceilings, doors, and exterior surfaces remain clean, presentable, and properly finished.

The Part-Time Painter will assist with ongoing maintenance painting, turnover work in residential spaces, event preparation, and facility refresh projects while supporting the department’s standard to CARE – Clean And Repair Everything.


Specific Duties:

Perform interior and exterior painting of walls, ceilings, doors, trim, railings, and building components.
• Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching drywall, and applying primer as needed.
• Repair minor drywall damage including holes, dents, nail pops, and seam cracks prior to painting.
• Assist with painting during housing turnovers, facility refreshes, and campus improvement projects.
• Apply paint, stain, sealants, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
• Match existing paint colors and finishes when required.
• Protect surrounding surfaces using masking, drop cloths, and protective coverings.
• Maintain clean job sites and properly store paint, tools, and equipment after use.
• Assist with pressure washing and surface preparation for exterior paint projects.
• Support other facilities maintenance tasks when painting work is limited.
• Follow safety guidelines when working on ladders, lifts, and elevated surfaces.


Other Duties:

• Assist with event preparation or rapid facility touch-ups.
• Support preventative maintenance or small repair tasks as assigned.
• Participate in department cleaning and organization standards.
• Assist other trades or facilities staff when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities leadership team.

 Knowledge:

• Knowledge of interior and exterior painting methods preferred
• Familiarity with paint finishes, primers, and coatings is helpful
• Understanding of surface preparation and masking techniques


Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.


Experience:

• Previous painting or construction experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with commercial or residential painting is a plus.


Extent of Public Contact:

This position will have occasional interaction with students, staff, and guests while performing work in campus buildings. Professional conduct and courteous communication are required at all times.


Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods.
• Ability to work on ladders and elevated work platforms.
• Ability to perform physical labor in indoor and outdoor environments.
