About this role
Possible intern locations: Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand or Vanuatu.
This educational internship provides BYU–Hawaii Facility and Construction Management students with hands-on experience in facilities management within the Meetinghouse Facilities Department (MFD). Under general supervision, Interns gain practical exposure to facility operations, assessments, capital projects, and asset planning while applying concepts learned through their academic studies. The program is designed to develop future facilities management professionals and strengthen global partnerships through meaningful workplace learning experiences.
Work under the guidance of supervising staff and receive regular coaching and feedback. Success in the role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, sound judgment, the ability to meet deadlines, collaborate effectively with others, take direction, and progressively demonstrate initiative and independence.
Support facility maintenance operations, inspections, and site assessments under supervision.
Assist with capital projects, including planning, coordination, documentation, and follow-up activities.
Gain experience in facility and asset planning, lifecycle management, and prioritization of facility needs.
Complete facilities management training and certification requirements, incl. IFMA Essentials of Facility Management.
Participate in site visits, information interviews, workshops, and learning sessions with facilities professionals and subject matter experts.
Work with supervisors to plan activities, set learning objectives, and review progress.
Maintain accurate records of internship activities, learning outcomes, and assigned work.
Build effective working relationships with local and global teams through professional communication and collaboration.
Perform other facilities management or development assignments as directed.
Currently enrolled at BYU–Hawaii and registered in the Construction and Facilities Management (CFM) major.
Must have 9 credits in the CFM program and at least 60 total credits.
Available to complete at least 14 weeks of a 16-week internship, ideally between 26 April and 27 August 2027
Must not be enrolled in academic courses during the internship period.
Able to work 30-40 hours per week for the duration of the internship.
Must have legal authorization to intern (work) in the country for which the internship is based.
Demonstrates keen interest in facilities management, operation & maintenance, projects and asset planning.
Able to work effectively under the supervision of a Facility Manager or other professional.
Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, initiative, and willingness to learn.
Able and willing to participate in site visits, training, professional development, and other assigned learning activities, and participate in exit interview and feedback processes.
