Job Description
The Operations Training Supervisor is responsible for leading the design, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of operational training programs that support employee development, regulatory compliance, workforce capability, and business performance. This position serves as the subject matter expert for training systems, training governance, onboarding effectiveness, and workforce development initiatives across multiple manufacturing facilities.
The Operations Training Supervisor partners closely with Operations, Safety, Quality, Human Resources, Maintenance, and Plant Leadership teams to ensure employees possess the skills, knowledge, and qualifications necessary to perform safely and effectively. The role provides leadership, coaching, resources, and support to Plant Training Coordinators, Authorized Trainers, supervisors, and operational leaders to ensure consistent execution of training standards and employee development practices across all facilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Training Strategy and Program Development:
- Develop, implement, and maintain operational training programs that align with organizational objectives and workforce development strategies.
- Establish standardized training processes, procedures, and governance practices across manufacturing locations.
- Ensure training programs support operational excellence, safety compliance, quality requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, observations, performance metrics, and business results.
- Continuously improve training programs based on operational needs, performance data, audit findings, and employee feedback.
- Training Delivery and Instructional Design:
- Design, develop, and facilitate engaging training programs for new hires, existing employees, supervisors, trainers, and operational leaders.
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods including classroom training, hands-on learning, coaching, e-learning, simulations, demonstrations, and blended learning approaches.
- Ensure adult learning principles are incorporated into all training materials and delivery methods.
- Develop and maintain training documentation, instructional materials, presentations, assessments, and qualification tools.
- Coordinate onboarding and new employee training programs to accelerate proficiency and engagement.
- Operational Training Support:
- Develop and maintain workforce capability strategies that support current and future operational needs.
- Partner with plant leadership to identify skill gaps, qualification needs, and succession planning opportunities.
- Create and maintain skills matrices, qualification frameworks, and employee development pathways.
- Support career progression planning and employee growth initiatives.
- Utilize workforce capability data to drive informed training and talent development decisions.
- Authorized Trainer Program Management
- Lead and administer the Authorized Trainer program.
- Establish trainer qualification standards, certification requirements, and evaluation processes.
- Select, develop, certify, and recertify Authorized Trainers.
- Conduct trainer assessments and coaching sessions to ensure instructional effectiveness.
- Monitor trainer performance and provide ongoing development opportunities.
- Ensure consistency and quality in training delivery across all facilities and departments.
- Training Documentation and Governance:
- Establish and maintain standards for training documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), One-Point Lessons (OPLs), work instructions, qualification assessments, and certification records.
- Ensure compliance with all company, regulatory, safety, quality, and audit requirements.
- Maintain governance standards of training systems, training matrices, and learning management platforms.
- Ensure training records are complete, accurate, and audit ready.
- Partner with plant subject matter experts to develop and maintain training materials, instructional content, and operational learning resources.
- Participates in meetings as a training representative.
- Coaches frontline leads and ATs on communication, training techniques, and leadership behaviors.
- Provides input on employee development and cross-training opportunities.
- Leadership and Team Development:
- Provide direct leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance management for Plant Trainers, Training Coordinators, and other assigned training personnel.
- Foster a culture of learning, accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Support supervisors and operational leaders in developing employees and reinforcing training outcomes.
- Build strong partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders to promote workforce capability development.
- Continuous Improvement and Training Effectiveness:
- Utilize operational and training data to identify trends, improvement opportunities, and potential risks.
- Analyze training metrics and operational performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that enhance training effectiveness and employee performance.
- Leverage training technology, best practices, and innovative learning solutions to improve program outcomes.
- Participate in and support operational excellence initiatives throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Education, or related discipline required. Formal training in learning and development, operations, or safety preferred. Equivalent combination of education and manufacturing experience may be considered.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in manufacturing, operations, workforce development, technical training, leadership, or a related field. Experience designing and delivering training programs in a manufacturing or operational environment preferred. Experience leading trainers, training initiatives, or workforce development programs preferred. Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) administration preferred.
Equipment and Software: Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; able to learn and use LMS and digital training applications.

Organization & Prioritization: Manages multiple tasks, schedules, and training records efficiently.
Problem Solving: Identifies learning gaps, adjusts training approaches, and recommends practical solutions.
Additional Information
Physical: Ability to work in both manufacturing and office environments. Must be able to walk and stand for long periods in a manufacturing environment. Regularly climb stairs/ladders and lifts up to 50 lbs.
Ability to demonstrate physical aspects of job tasks during training.
Sensory: Must be able to visually observe tasks, hear and speak clearly in a noisy environment, and identify key safety or quality indicators.
Mental/Reasoning: Ability to conduct training sessions in classroom and operational settings. Able to break down complex tasks into teachable steps. Thinks logically and adjusts teaching methods based on learner needs. Works independently, manages time effectively, and maintains detailed records. Ability to travel to company locations as required. Occasional extended hours may be required to support operational and training needs.
