What You'll Be Doing

The Nurse Practitioner (NP), under the general direction of the supervising physician, provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals with acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions in an outpatient clinical setting. The NP is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and educating patients while collaborating with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Obtain comprehensive health histories through patient/family interviews and medical record review, with an emphasis on gastrointestinal symptoms, risk factors, family history, and relevant medical, surgical, social, and medication histories.
  • Perform thorough physical examinations and assess patients presenting with a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, imaging, and other screening procedures, consulting with physicians and specialists as clinically indicated.
  • Develop differential diagnoses and formulate individualized treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal disorders.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with evidence-based guidelines, organizational policies, and state regulations.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding gastrointestinal conditions, treatment plans, medications, dietary modifications, preventive care, and lifestyle recommendations.
  • Monitor patient progress, review diagnostic results, adjust treatment plans as appropriate, and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding patient management, including pre-procedure evaluations, post-procedure follow-up, and ongoing care for patients undergoing GI diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists, ancillary services, and community resources as needed to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record, including assessments, treatment plans, diagnostic results, and patient communications.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with applicable regulatory, organizational, and clinical practice standards.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing required
  • Valid NJ Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licenses required
  • At least 2 years of experience practicing as an NP; Prior experience in Gastroenterology strongly preferred; experience in Internal Medicine, Primary Care, or other related specialties will also be considered.
  • Maintain all appropriate approvals to prescribe and dispense drugs under applicable New Jersey State and federal law (CDS DEA license)
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Courteous and compassion bedside manner
