About the Team:
The Mission Systems Engineering Team develops and integrates the hardware and software that enable Hermeus aircraft to execute missions.
As a Mission Systems Engineering Intern, you will work across avionics, software, communications, and system integration to help build, test, and troubleshoot mission capabilities. This role is ideal for someone with a strong mix of hands-on hardware experience and software development skills.
Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)
Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)
Responsibilities:
- Support integration and testing of mission hardware, software, sensors, radios, processors, and avionics systems.
- Develop and test software for command and control, telemetry, and subsystem interfaces.
- Perform hardware/software bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting in lab, HIL, ground-test, and aircraft environments.
- Support system interfaces, networking, communication protocols, and integration requirements.
- Collaborate with software, avionics, autonomy, communications, and flight-test teams.
- Document test results, technical findings, and system configurations.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with both software development and hardware integration through internships, coursework, research, projects, or competition teams.
- Familiarity with networking TCP/UDP, Ethernet
- Programming experience in C++, Python, or a similar language.
- Experience working with embedded systems, electronics, avionics, sensors, networking, or other hardware-connected systems.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software interfaces.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary technical teams.
- GPA of 3.0 or above
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, RS-422, or ARINC.
- Experience with electrical schematics, wiring, electronics bring-up, or test equipment.
- Exposure to HIL/SIL, robotics, UAVs, aerospace, defense, Formula SAE, rocketry, or similar hands-on projects.

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
