Medical Record Technician

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and organize patient medical records in electronic and paper formats.
• Enter, update, and verify patient information in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Ensure medical records are complete, accurate, and properly filed.
• Retrieve medical records for doctors, nurses, insurance companies, and authorized personnel.
• Process medical record requests while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Scan, index, and upload medical documents into EHR systems.
• Review records for missing or incomplete information and follow up with relevant departments.
• Assist with medical coding, documentation, and record classification when required.
• Follow healthcare privacy, security, and record-retention policies.
• Coordinate with medical, administrative, and billing departments.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable healthcare regulations.

Required Skills:

• Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation.
• Good computer and data-entry skills.
• Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Understanding of patient confidentiality and data privacy.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information professionally.

Typical Qualifications:

• Diploma/certificate or degree in Medical Records, Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or a related field.
• Experience with hospital or clinic records is an advantage.
• Knowledge of medical coding systems such as ICD can be beneficial.
