The Cancer Survivorship Program at Children's National is a recognized leader in pediatric Cancer Survivorship research and treatment. The Medical Director for the Cancer Survivorship Program will be responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinic, as well as research, educational, and advocacy initiatives as determined by the Division Chief and/or Center leadership. The Medical Director will also provide administrative leadership over the Cancer Survivorship Program and all pediatric Cancer Survivorship services.


 

Minimum Education

  • Medical Doctor (M.D.) (Required)


Minimum Work Experience

  • 3 years experience in administrative leadership (Required)


Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Requires skills and motivation to advance and optimize Cancer Survivorship services in the organization.


Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in pediatric Oncology and/or Neurology (Required)
  • Must successfully complete the CNMC Trustworthiness and Reliability Assessment, including fingerprinting. Upon Hire (Required)


Functional Accountabilities
Administrative Accountabilities

  • Effectively direct Cancer Survivorship services operations and maintains good communications in consultation with leadership.
  • Meet regularly with the program staff and provides leadership needed to achieve medical care goals.
  • Keep medical staff informed of changes in policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures for services in accordance with regulatory bodies.
  • Attend and present at Divisional, Center wide and/or organizational meetings.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Division Chief.

Professional Services Accountabilities

  • In collaboration with nursing leadership and other medical leadership, organize, coordinate and monitor the activities of the CANCER SURVIVORSHIP Program staff and ensure the quality and appropriateness of services meet professional standards.
  • Work in collaboration with the appropriate nursing leadership and other clinical services (especially BMT, Hematology, Oncology, ICUs, and Neurology) to ensure effective and safe provisions.

Quality Assurance

  • Establish and maintain a means for disseminating information gained from the quality assurance program to all trainees and staff
  • Help maintain regulatory compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor all physician and nurse complaints regarding services and/or turn-around time.
  • Foster a quality management system for the delivery of reliable services to include verification of staff competencies and appropriate delegation of responsibilities.
  • Regularly monitor all services to assure adequate oversight, and lead continuous quality improvement measures.

Education

  • Serve as a resource for information about CANCER SURVIVORSHIP services and shares educational resources (books, periodicals, articles) with other professional staff members
  • Complete required continuous training and education, including being current with Information Technology (Cerner).
  • Conduct in-service and other educational programs as requested.
  • Teach and mentor nurses, residents, fellows and medical students as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge and compliance with ACGME standards for resident education.

Business and Financial Accountabilities

  • In collaboration with the Oncology Chief, SVP of CCBD and/or Executive Director CCBD, reviews budget performance reports, analyzes cause of variances, and develops and implements action plans to achieve financial goals
  • Assist the Division Chief and/or the Executive Director of CCBD in providing statistics and management reports necessary for the operation and administration of all services.


 

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children’s National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children’s National compensation philosophy. These factors are legitimate and non-discriminatory including, but not limited to, the current market conditions; organizational needs; the individual’s combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications. Children’s National is committed to providing a fair and competitive total rewards package to each of our employees. This base salary range does not include our comprehensive benefits package or any additional compensation for which this position may be eligible.
