About this role

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer – Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of all mechanical systems associated with the Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plant. The role ensures the efficient performance of pumps, pressure vessels, membranes, filtration systems, and associated mechanical equipment to support uninterrupted water production while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

The ideal candidate must have strong hands-on experience in RO plant operations, mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and water treatment systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants and associated water treatment systems to ensure continuous and efficient production.
  • Monitor the performance of high-pressure pumps, membranes, pressure vessels, multimedia filters, cartridge filters, chemical dosing systems, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections of mechanical equipment to identify abnormalities and ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
  • Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical faults, diagnose equipment failures, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Monitor key operating parameters including flow, pressure, conductivity, TDS, recovery rate, and membrane performance to optimize plant efficiency.
  • Perform membrane Cleaning-in-Place (CIP), membrane replacement, and system performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with operations teams to minimize production interruptions and optimize plant performance.
  • Assist in the installation, testing, commissioning, and startup of new mechanical equipment and plant modifications.
  • Maintain pumps, motors, valves, pipelines, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and associated mechanical systems in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of equipment failures and implement reliability improvements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, equipment history, and spare parts documentation using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Assist in inventory control and spare parts management for critical mechanical equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing operating costs, improving water recovery, increasing equipment reliability, and enhancing overall plant efficiency.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company procedures, environmental regulations, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements, and applicable industry standards.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional certification in Water Treatment, Industrial Maintenance, or Reliability Engineering is an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance and operation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, desalination facilities, or industrial water treatment plants.
  • Proven hands-on experience with:
    • Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems
    • High-Pressure Pumps
    • Pressure Vessels
    • RO Membranes and Membrane Cleaning (CIP)
    • Multimedia and Cartridge Filtration Systems
    • Chemical Dosing Systems
    • Pumps, Valves, Pipelines, and Mechanical Utilities
  • Strong knowledge of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with water treatment processes, desalination technologies, and applicable industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of instrumentation and process control systems used in water treatment plants.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, planning, organizational, and teamwork abilities.
