About this role

Hadrian - Manufacturing the Future

Hadrian is building autonomous factories to reindustrialize America. By combining AI, advanced software, robotics, and full-stack manufacturing, we help aerospace and defense companies build rockets, satellites, aircraft, ships, and other mission-critical systems up to 10x faster and at significantly lower cost.

Following our $1.37B Series D at a $7.87B valuation, Hadrian is rapidly expanding our manufacturing footprint, launching new capabilities across welding, casting, forging, electronics, additive manufacturing, and more, while scaling our Factory-as-a-Service platform to transform how critical products are built.

Backed by leading investors including JPMorgan Chase, Valor Equity Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, 137 Ventures, Lux Capital, T. Rowe Price, and Morgan Stanley, we’re building the future of American manufacturing—and looking for exceptional people to help make it happen.

If you’re ready to take on the most challenging and rewarding work of your career while helping create American manufacturing jobs for generations to come, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.

Within Additive Manufacturing, we're developing and qualifying materials and processes across LPBF, DED, and polymer applications. We own the materials engineering work that makes that possible, and we're looking for someone ready to be challenged and take on highly technical, independent work with the resources to push for innovation in the additive industry. You'll be relied on as the go to technical resource on materials for additive.

The Role

  • Lead materials development and qualification across LPBF, DED, and polymer additive processes.

  • Work closely with process and applications engineers to develop parameters for various material and equipment configurations.

  • Design and execute DOEs, test plans, and statistical data analysis to develop material properties.

  • Develop materials allowables, author specifications, and supporting qualification documentation.

  • Discover, evaluate, and implement novel materials and technologies, owning everything from initial selection through parameter development, validation, and implementation.

  • Work cross functionally with quality, supply chain, designers, and applications engineers.

What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in Materials Science, Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related engineering discipline.

  • 4+ years in a materials and processes engineering role developing and qualifying additive manufacturing processes for metal alloys, with a strong focus on laser powder bed fusion.

  • Strong working knowledge of alloy types common to aerospace and extreme environments, such as nickel based, copper, aluminum, and stainless.

  • Familiarity with post processing and heat treatments for these alloy types.

  • Background performing material testing, metallurgical analysis, or failure investigations in a production or laboratory setting.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements, and apply them within a manufacturing environment.

What Will Set You Apart

  • An advanced degree relevant to the field.

  • Background in aerospace, aviation, defense, energy, or similar industries with high specification requirements.

  • Familiarity with industry specialized material standards, certification requirements, or quality systems such as NADCAP, AMS7000 series, AS9100, and relevant ASTM/AMS additive manufacturing specifications.

  • Familiarity with fracture control classification of components and associated qualification requirements.

  • Background across adjacent metal processes, such as casting, forging, and brazing.

  • Experience with in-situ process monitoring for laser powder bed fusion.

  • Knowledge of statistical methods for generating test data and building material allowables, informed by frameworks such as MMPDS.

  • Prior support of production scale up in high-rate manufacturing environments.

  • Ability to lead root cause investigations using fractography, metallography, and mechanical testing.

Compensation:

For this role, the target salary range is $150,000 - $220,000 (actual range may vary based on experience).

This is the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.
