About this role

Position Overview

Green Street is building cloud-native data platforms that power industry-leading Commercial Real Estate (CRE) intelligence. We are looking for a hands-on Software Development Manager to lead a team responsible for ingesting, transforming, and delivering high-quality data used by clients and internal research teams worldwide.

This is a player-coach role (~50–70% hands-on coding) where you will balance technical leadership, team development, and delivery ownership. You’ll work closely with product, data, and engineering partners to build scalable systems that process complex datasets from a wide range of public and private sources.

What It’s Like to Work Here

  • A collaborative, transparent engineering culture focused on quality and continuous improvement
  • Emphasis on Agile practices, paired programming, and automated testing
  • Opportunities to work on high-impact, data-driven products
  • Flexibility to move across teams and projects as the organization grows
  • A team of passionate engineers solving complex, real-world problems

Why Join Green Street?

You’ll play a key role in shaping the systems that power one of the fastest-growing technology platforms in the CRE space—working with a team that values ownership, innovation, and engineering excellence.

Job Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Technical Leadership

  • Own the design, implementation, and evolution of our data platform, including ingestion pipelines, ETL processes, and database architecture
  • Contribute hands-on to system design and development (Python, AWS-based services)
  • Lead architecture and code reviews to ensure scalability, performance, security, and maintainability
  • Establish and enforce best practices for testing, observability, and code quality
  • Drive adoption of modern development practices, including AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity and quality

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers through coaching, feedback, and career development
  • Hire and onboard engineers to support team growth and long-term scaling
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and engineering excellence
  • Support a highly transparent and inclusive team environment

Delivery & Execution

  • Own end-to-end delivery of multiple concurrent projects in an Agile environment
  • Partner with Product Managers and Technical Project Managers to define scope, priorities, and delivery plans
  • Proactively manage risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communication
  • Ensure consistent, predictable delivery with high-quality outcomes

Data Platform Ownership

  • Build and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines and ingestion systems
  • Ensure high standards for data quality, integrity, and availability
  • Optimize systems for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
  • Support both client-facing products and internal research workflows

Candidate Profile

What We’re Looking For

  • 7 - 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3 - 5 years leading engineering teams
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, data-intensive systems in a cloud environment
  • Strong hands-on experience with backend development and system design
  • Experience designing and building data models and working with relational and/or non-relational databases
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects from concept through delivery in Agile environments

Technical Experience

  • Strong proficiency in Python and data processing libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas)
  • Experience with modern data orchestration and pipeline tools (e.g., Airflow)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS) and containerization (Docker)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD, version control (Git), and automated testing practices
