About this role

Company Description

For more than 20 years, KordaMentha has supported businesses through some of their most complex matters and opportunities. Founder owned and led; we are an advisory firm that helps corporations, financiers, lawyers, private investors and government clients to grow, protect and recover value.

That’s what we do, but it’s how we do this that makes us who we are.

Proudly independent, strategically local, and with a bias for action to get things done, we focus on doing what is right by our clients, our people, and the wider community. Our track record shows that we help navigate the best path forward in challenging times, and do so across cities, regions and territories.

In the most stressful or demanding environments, we continue to drive change where it really counts.

Job Description

Australia’s energy landscape is changing rapidly, creating complex challenges and significant opportunities for organisations across the country. KordaMentha’s Energy Advisory team supports clients as they navigate this transition, providing practical advice across strategy, investment, regulation, operating models, technology, performance improvement and delivery.

We are looking for a Manager to join our Energy Advisory team and play a key role in delivering high-quality, outcome-focused work for clients across Australia’s changing energy system.

This role is ideal for a commercially minded advisory professional who enjoys solving complex problems, building trusted client relationships and translating analysis into clear, practical recommendations.

As a Manager, you will help clients make clear decisions in complex environments, balancing commercial outcomes, reliability, affordability, policy, regulation, technology and delivery considerations.

You will:

  • Build and maintain strong day-to-day relationships with client stakeholders, becoming a reliable point of contact throughout engagements.

  • Manage engagement workstreams, taking responsibility for scope, timelines, quality and day-to-day delivery.

  • Structure complex commercial, regulatory, operational and technology problems, and drive the analysis needed to solve them.

  • Prepare high-quality reports, presentations and client deliverables that are clear, evidence-based and defensible.

  • Support clients through change by helping design and deliver stakeholder engagement, communications and adoption activities that make recommendations stick.

  • Contribute to business development, proposals and marketing activities, while helping identify opportunities for clients and the practice.

  • Coach and support more junior team members, including reviewing their work.

Qualifications

You bring strong knowledge of the energy industry, quantitative capability and sound commercial judgement. You are comfortable working across complex, ambiguous environments and enjoy developing strategies that translate into practical outcomes for clients.

You will bring:

  • 4 to 6+ years of relevant energy and utilities experience in the private sector or government, for example in consulting, advisory, professional services, government infrastructure teams or in-house energy teams, ideally with energy or wider infrastructure exposure.

  • Credible depth in one or more relevant energy and utility sectors, such as generation, networks, retail, gas or water.

  • Experience across diverse engagement types, including strategy, market entry, business cases, operating model design and change or adoption.

  • Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving capability, including financial modelling and business-case analysis.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.

  • The ability to build effective relationships and communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.

  • Comfort using AI tools to improve the quality and efficiency of your work, with the judgement to apply them appropriately and check outputs.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a genuine interest in developing more junior team members.

Experience or awareness of emerging topics shaping the energy transition, such as data centres, market reform, CER and renewables economics, would be highly regarded.

You may not tick every box, and that’s okay. If you meet most of the criteria and are excited by the opportunity to help clients navigate Australia’s changing energy system, we would like to hear from you.
