Job Description

He aha te tūranga - About the role:

We are looking for friendly, practical, non-clinical people to join our Major Incident Support Team (MIST) in Pukekohe. As a MIST member, you will assist our ambulance crews and communities in a variety of ways depending on the situation.

You might be helping to lift a patient, setting up at a music festival, or providing support during anything from a local emergency to a national disaster. Whether it's a planned event or an unexpected crisis, you'll be part of the essential support crew working behind the scenes to keep ambulance operations running smoothly and make a real difference in your community.

Your key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining the operational readiness of MIST vehicles and equipment
  • Safely driving and operating support, command or specialist vehicles
  • Responding to major incidents and events in roles such as logistics, welfare, communications, safety or team leader
  • Supporting ambulance crews and helping ensure emergency operations run smoothly

What we'll provide:

We'll give you all the training and support you need to become a safe and confident member of the team. As part of your initial training, you'll complete:

  • A two-day Operations Induction course
  • A two-day Operations Risk Management course
  • A two-day Ambulance Driving course (where driving forms part of your role), supported by online learning and a driving logbook
  • Ongoing NZQA-recognised advanced first aid and clinical training
  • Ongoing support from an experienced team

As a volunteer with Hato Hone St John, you'll become part of one of New Zealand's most trusted organisations, with access to a strong team culture, a real sense of purpose, and a range of benefits and discounts on St John services, products, and with national and local retailers.
