Position SummaryĀ
TheĀ Major Gifts OfficerĀ is a frontline fundraiser responsible for building and managing a portfolio ofĀ highācapacityĀ donors and prospects, with a focus onĀ major gifts,Ā donor acquisition,Ā principal gift pipeline development, andĀ integrated giving conversations, including legacy opportunities.Ā
This is aĀ builder role within a collaborative team environment.Ā FederationĀ is actively constructing the systems, structures, and strategies that will define our next decade of philanthropic success. This position will serve as aĀ key partnerĀ within a coordinated development team, with specific leadership responsibility forĀ acquisition, qualification, and principal gift pipeline growthāwhile partnering closely with colleagues who lead major gifts strategy and implementation.Ā

Key ResponsibilitiesĀ
Portfolio Management & Donor StrategyĀ
- Manage a portfolio of ~125 donors and prospects with capacity at theĀ $25,000ā$1M+Ā level.Ā
- Develop individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies using a structuredĀ movesāmanagementĀ approach.Ā
- PartnerĀ with colleagues who lead major gifts strategy to ensure alignment, shared learning, and coordinated donor engagement.Ā
- Conduct regular portfolio analysis to ensure movement, balance, and growth.Ā
Infrastructure Building & Strategic DevelopmentĀ
- Help further build and implement FederationāsĀ major gifts infrastructure, including systems, processes, donor pathways, and engagement models.Ā
- Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and majorĀ and legacyĀ gifts team to build aĀ principal gifts frameworkĀ that supports transformational giving.Ā
- IdentifyĀ gaps in current systems and propose solutions that strengthen FederationāsĀ longātermĀ fundraising capacity.Ā
- Partner with internal teams to refineĀ donorāreadyĀ materials, impact reporting, and engagement tools.Ā
Donor Acquisition & Pipeline GrowthĀ
- Lead proactive prospect identification efforts using research, networks, and community engagement.Ā
- Serve as theĀ teamĀ leadĀ for donor acquisition andĀ earlyāstageĀ pipeline development.Ā
- ConvertĀ midālevelĀ donors and new prospects into major gift donors through intentional outreach and personalized engagement.Ā
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth handoff of qualified prospects into the broader majorĀ giftsĀ portfolio.Ā
Cultivation, Solicitation & StewardshipĀ
- LeverageĀ 120ā150 meaningful donor interactions annually, includingĀ ināpersonĀ visits, small gatherings, andĀ missionāalignedĀ experiences.Ā
- Partner with senior leadership to prepare and deliver compelling major gift proposals aligned with donor interests and organizational priorities.Ā
- IntegrateĀ legacy givingĀ andĀ multiāvehicleĀ philanthropic conversationsĀ (e.g.,Ā Endowments,Ā DAFs, bequests, blended gifts) into donor strategies asĀ appropriate.Ā
- Collaborate with senior leadership, colleagues, and lay partners on joint solicitations.Ā
- Ensure thoughtful stewardship that deepens donor commitment and sets up the next gift.Ā
Data, Reporting & AccountabilityĀ
- MaintainĀ accurateĀ andĀ timelyĀ donor records in CRM.Ā
- Track progress toward goals and provide regular pipeline reports.Ā
- Use data to inform strategy, forecast revenue, andĀ identifyĀ opportunities for growth.Ā
