Machine Operator

Overview

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating the exit door system and related controls on the plate line to ensure steel is processed accurately, safely, and efficiently. This position supports the Plate Line Operator by monitoring machine functions, verifying dimensions, maintaining proper tension and pressure, assisting with setup and maintenance activities, and ensuring finished material meets Camden Yards Steel quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate the plate line exit door console and exit table.
• Set end stops and verify cut lengths according to work orders.
• Monitor machine pressure, tension, and control panel indicators.
• Perform pre-operational equipment inspections.
• Assist the Plate Line Operator with production setup and operation.
• Assist with blade changes and maintenance activities.
• Verify sheet length, width, and gauge using measuring devices.
• Cut, place, recover, and organize wood blocking.
• Apply accurate material identification tags.
• Maintain inventory of wood, gloves, and workstation supplies.
• Communicate with crane operators, laborers, supervisors, quality, and maintenance.
• Maintain housekeeping and assist other departments as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

• Ability to read work orders, tape measures, and micrometers.
• Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
• Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to safety.
• Prior industrial experience is preferred
