Meet the Team 

Responsible for supervising daily operations supporting Class 8 autonomous vehicle development and testing. Oversees personnel, staffing, scheduling, safety compliance, and operational coordination to ensure testing activities are executed safely and efficiently. Provides frontline leadership through employee development, performance management, and accountability while fostering a team environment aligned with Torc’s core values.

What You’ll Do 

 

1. Daily Operations & Logistics
  • Supervise daily autonomous vehicle testing operations and personnel assignments.
  • Coordinate staffing, equipment, and resources to support scheduled testing activities.
  • Ensure effective shift transitions, operational handoffs, and communication between crews.
  • Monitor daily execution, resolve routine operational issues, and escalate barriers when necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to established operational procedures and testing requirements.
2. Personnel Leadership & Development
  • Provide direct supervision to In-Vehicle Fallback Test Drivers (IFTDs) and Fleet Operations Specialists (FOSs).
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations, provide coaching, and support professional development.
  • Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for performance, safety, and procedural compliance.
  • Address employee concerns, recognize strong performance, and administer corrective action when appropriate.
  • Support recruitment, interviews, onboarding, training, and employee qualification requirements.
  • Foster a positive team culture that reflects Torc’s core values, promotes trust, and encourages teamwork and accountability.
3. Staffing & Scheduling
  • Maintain daily and weekly staffing schedules aligned with operational requirements.
  • Assign personnel based on qualifications, availability, and testing needs.
  • Manage employee attendance, timekeeping, and scheduling adjustments.
  • Coordinate staffing and travel requirements for remote testing assignments.
  • Identify and communicate personnel shortages and coverage limitations.
4. Fleet & Testing Support
  • Coordinate personnel and logistical support for assigned testing activities.
  • Verify operational readiness of personnel, equipment, and supporting resources.
  • Collaborate with Fleet Management and Maintenance regarding vehicle availability and readiness.
  • Ensure completion of required vehicle inspections, fueling, and operational documentation.
  • Communicate equipment issues and operational constraints affecting testing.
5. Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Enforce company safety policies, operational procedures, and applicable DOT/FMCSA requirements.
  • Ensure personnel maintain required training, certifications, and qualifications.
  • Support incident investigations, safety event reviews, and corrective actions.
  • Promote a safety-first culture through consistent coaching and accountability.
6. Reporting & Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Monitor daily operational performance against established KPIs.
  • Maintain accurate staffing records, operational reports, and shift documentation.
  • Track scheduled versus executed testing activities and document operational delays.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Safety, Maintenance, Training, and other supporting departments.
  • Communicate operational updates, staffing limitations, and performance concerns to leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve daily efficiency and operational execution.

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed 

  • Valid US Driver's license with a safe driving record
  • Terminal and Yard Operation experience
  • Safety Mindset
  • Requires continuous education and training with a passion for knowledge to maintain the highest level of ingenuity and creative thinking.

  • Appropriate personal protective equipment is required as needed in assigned areas such as the garage

  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work occasionally in inclement weather/temperature extremes.

  • May occasionally lift and carry up to 60 pounds

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several geographic markets. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Torc's total compensation package will also include our corporate bonus and stock option plan. Dependent on the position offered, sign-on payments, relocation, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
