About this role

Overview

BRMi is seeking a Senior Java Microservices Engineer to support the design, development, and modernization of enterprise applications in a cloud-based environment. This role will focus heavily on backend development using Java and Spring Boot, building scalable microservices, designing and integrating APIs, and deploying services within Azure container environments.

 

The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of software development experience and strong hands-on expertise with microservices architecture, cloud technologies, APIs, and enterprise system integrations. This individual should be comfortable working within a large organization and collaborating across engineering, architecture, infrastructure, and business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based microservices using Spring Boot.
  • Build scalable, reliable, and secure backend services within a distributed microservices architecture.
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and system integrations.
  • Support API development and integration using MuleSoft.
  • Develop and maintain service-to-service communications within containerized environments.
  • Design and deploy applications within Microsoft Azure.
  • Work with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Container Apps (ACA), or similar container platforms.
  • Work with Azure cloud databases, including designing data models and supporting application data requirements.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting microservices development and deployment.
  • Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms using service principals, tokens, and related security standards.
  • Troubleshoot application, integration, API, and cloud-related issues across distributed systems.
  • Participate in application design and architecture discussions and recommend scalable technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, architecture, security, DevOps, and other enterprise teams.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and production support activities.
  • Follow enterprise development, security, documentation, and change-management standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong hands-on Java development experience.
  • Advanced experience developing backend applications using Spring Boot.
  • Significant experience designing and developing microservices-based applications.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and service-to-service communication.
  • Hands-on experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
  • Experience with MuleSoft for API development and/or enterprise system integrations.
  • Hands-on Microsoft Azure experience.
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications in containerized environments, preferably Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or Azure Container Apps (ACA).
  • Experience working with cloud-based databases and designing application data models.
  • Experience developing or supporting CI/CD pipelines for microservices applications.
  • Understanding of modern DevOps and automated deployment practices.
  • Experience implementing authentication and authorization using service principals, tokens, managed identities, OAuth/OIDC, or similar approaches.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and demonstrated experience working within large enterprise organizations.

Desired:

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure services and cloud-native application development.
  • Experience with both AKS and Azure Container Apps.
  • Strong MuleSoft integration experience.
  • Experience modernizing monolithic applications into microservices.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration.
  • Experience with automated testing and deployment practices.
  • Understanding of cloud security, secrets management, identity management, and secure API design.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development
