POSITION SUMMARY: 

The IT Technician provides responsive, customer-focused technology support for United Energy Workers Healthcare and affiliated healthcare operations. This role supports a distributed workforce, protects systems that may contain Protected Health Information (PHI), and helps maintain reliable access to Microsoft 365, endpoint devices, networks, line-of-business applications, phones, printers, and other technology used by clinical, operational, and administrative teams. The IT Technician serves as a practical first point of contact for day-to-day IT needs, documents work clearly, escalates appropriately, and supports a secure, dependable, and professional technology experience for employees. 

This role will support our East Coast operations, working a 7am MT - 3p MT schedule. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide remote and onsite technical assistance to employees, contractors, and offices, using approved remote support tools, phone support, Teams, and clear step-by-step instructions.
  • Triage, troubleshoot, document, and resolve hardware, software, access, connectivity, printing, mobile device, and user account issues; escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Support HIPAA-aligned security practices by helping protect systems, accounts, devices, and data that may contain PHI or other confidential company information.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and replace desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, peripherals, and other approved equipment; assist with equipment shipping, receiving, asset tagging, and inventory accuracy.
  • Install, update, and troubleshoot Windows, Microsoft 365 apps, Teams, SharePoint/OneDrive sync, browsers, endpoint management tools, EMR-related access, and other approved business applications.
  • Assist with endpoint security, MFA, password resets, conditional access prompts, antivirus/EDR alerts, encryption, patching, device compliance, and suspected security incidents according to IT procedures.
  • Support system upgrades, software deployments, workstation refreshes, device configuration standards, and other IT projects with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Assist with employee onboarding, offboarding, role changes, account provisioning, group membership, licensing requests, and access reviews using approved IT workflows.
  • Help administer and support Microsoft 365 services used by the organization, including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and related security features, within the scope assigned by IT leadership.
  • Create and maintain clear end-user guides, standard operating procedures, and internal knowledge base articles that reduce repeat issues and improve consistency.
  • Support branch office technology needs, including internet connectivity, network equipment, telephony, backup connectivity, and coordination with vendors or local partners when needed.
  • Build trusted working relationships with all departments by communicating clearly, following through, and explaining technical issues in plain language.
  • Maintain accurate records in the IT ticketing system, including issue details, troubleshooting steps, resolution notes, asset information, knowledge base updates, and recurring issue patterns.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all office, employee, patient, and client records in accordance with HIPAA, Privacy Act requirements, company policy, and applicable procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery through automation, standardization, secure configuration, and better documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in IT projects, documentation efforts, vendor coordination, and process improvement initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Relevant certifications preferred, such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, Azure Fundamentals, Endpoint Administrator, or Cisco networking certifications.
  • 2+ years of experience providing IT support in a distributed, multi-location environment, preferably in healthcare, home health, or another regulated industry.
  • Working knowledge of information security best practices, HIPAA considerations, Microsoft 365 security concepts, endpoint protection, MFA, and data protection procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide technical support in plain language to users with varying levels of technical experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, documentation habits, and respect for confidential information.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tickets, requests, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Windows, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Excel, endpoint devices, and common remote support tools.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience building, securing, and deploying AI-driven solutions natively in a Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint administration, Power Automate, PowerShell, ticketing systems, and asset management tools is preferred.
  • Healthcare IT, HIPAA, PHI handling, EMR access support, and secure remote workforce support experience are preferred.
